Just learned something…(edited) on the 3.0L

27° outside normal elevated idol at startup is just under 1000rpm.

Turn your heater all the way up to HI and the idol increases to 1250rpm.

I wanted to plow a bit of snow so did a remote start, 2 or 3 minutes later got in the truck and it was idling about 1400 RPM. Held brake pressed the big button and it idled down some, and dropped down to "normal" in a couple of seconds.
I suspect to keep up with electric demand, coolant flow through the heater core and so on, they boost things up a bit. There's a lot of demand on that system with the heated seats, heated wheel, blower on high and so on.

My experience with tractors is that idling diesels produce little heat. That may not be correct for these or other diesels, but if I wanted the cabin to be toasty when running a 3 point snow blower or blade, you had the tractor plugged in, started it, unplugged the block heater, and bumped the speed lever up a bit so it wasn't idling.

On a Cummins diesel. To raise the idle rpm up. Use the gas pedal to the rpm you want. Then push in on the button that sets the speed for the cruise control. Wish the our 3.0 was like that.

My `08 you hit the cruise on button and it elevates the idol. Then you can hit the +or increase button to increase the idol speed even more. It also changes the pitch of the turbo veins and makes it sound like the engine is retarding.
