I just want 'em brighter - the factory are dim, but I can't see spending $100 just for a couple of brighter LED lights.

It would seem to me that someone could come up with a plug and play brighter light that simply plugs into the factory connector and takes minutes to install - and costs only 25 bucks or so.
I don't want wire cutting, soldering, whatever - just unplug the factory dim light and plug in a brighter LED. (my wife would want a slight purple hue to the light, though, for her JL and a touch of blue would be ok in mine)
My wish is a little different, I'm perfectly happy with the brightness while I'm driving, it's a nice ambient light. What I wish would happen is if I turn on the dome light or open the door, THEN have the footwells double in brightness.

Hey does anyone know which bulbs fit in the foot well? I have just the plan white lights and I would like to change it to orange if possible.
Did you ever figure this out? I was thinking it might be a quick winter project changing footwell lighting color. Wouldn't it be as easy as taping into the wire's on the footwell LED's and splicing in a set of these? I know they are blue and you wanted orange. Just curious. Also concerned they may be too bright.

No. I stopped looking in to it. It seems a lot more difficult than I thought it would.

Thanks, I will get one of the sets I linked above and try... then follow up. May not be before the holidays. I need a warmer day to look under the dash to check out the wiring clip on existing LED's.

For what it's worth, in my patrol car, my overhead interior light was white with opaque cover. Didn't like the white at night due to loosing night sight and marking myself as a clear target. I purchased a spray can of transparent blue paint for model cars. Sprayed the entire cover. It worked great. Never chipped, cracked or peeled in the time I was assigned to that car (4 years). This may be an option for some of you to change the lighting color at least. Sorry I can't help with the brightness but, hope it helps someone. Best of luck to you.

Usually you can flip the switch the other way on those circular dome lights and get a red light

True, on the newer models. The older ones only had white.

My Mojave has courtesy and ambient lights. Not all have both. After a quick google and my own confirmation, the Mojave does.

Courtesy lights are the lights that turn on when you open a door, such as the center dome light or under the dash.

Ambient are the lights that can be adjusted by moving the thumb wheel on the headlight switch and under the dash.

My wiring:

Purple or black is the ground. It was hard to see.

Yellow wire w/ purple strip on my Mojave is the courtesy light and goes off when you start the motor

White wire w/ green strip. On my Mojave is the ambient light that stays on when I drive.

This was a test fit, and all is good, I will wire them up in a few days. Eastern Shore of MD is supposed to get a nice storm tomorrow/Sunday, so I wont be working on them, but it will be a fast easy, cheap project. Thanks

These are the lights I went with for $16

So, the LED is built into a complete plug-and-play housing. The part number is 68346813AB and it's about $26. It looks like this:

I once found a kit that gave instructions on how to disassemble the housing and replace the lenses with colored ones, but I cannot find it for the life of me. If I am able to find it again, I'll post here.

But, for $26 you could order one and take it apart and maybe find a DIY solution? I know it can be done (from the link I can't find)...
Reviving a dead thread. After getting swarmed by bugs after arriving late (after dark) to our camp site near a River this Summer I've been looking for a way to change the interior lights from White to Red and saw this thread and post by OH Jeeper. I recently saw the how to instructions that you mentioned.

As you noted Paragoptics offers LED Boards that replace the White LED Boards in the factory Footwell Lights. I believe it's their instructions for how to disassemble and replace the LED Boards with their Color LED Boards that you were referring to.
