Doesn't that trash state get mad about how far your tires stick out from the fenders as well?
Yep! They do. I was just told by a State Trooper that they are cracking down on this and that they’ll start issuing fines

Pennsylvania is one of the most screwed up states in the US. I guess it depends on what kind of mood the local police are in. Some of the laws just don’t make sense. Did you know that you can get a ticket for having a frame around your license plate? Yep! Cops in Pennsylvania can pull you over for it and issue a ticket if they can’t see the name of the state or website at the bottom or where it says truck. It’s insane.

My attorney/magistrate (wife) says that the law states “unless the vehicle has been manufactured or modified to the extent that there is no roof or side.” If you “modify” your Jeep by removing the roof (freedom or soft top) you can drive without the doors. If you have the roof and no doors on your guilty.
I disagree. The part you are referring to is about doors opening and closing securely. If this law passes and there are still grey areas we are back to square one.

"The doors shall open and close securely unless the vehicle has been manufactured or modified to the
extent that there is no roof or side"

This part of the new bill doesn't mention anything about having a roof or not, the only thing needed is side mirrors. I'm glad thus part was changed because the original bill didn't allow you to drive on roads with a speed limit of 55 and over.

" If a vehicle is designed by the manufacturer with removable doors for off-road use or customization, the
vehicle may be operated on highways of this Commonwealth with its doors removed or nonoriginal equipment manufacturer doors, provided that the vehicle has two properly functioning side mirrors."

I live in PA near Pittsburgh. I’ve been pulled over for my tires sticking past my fenders but they let me slide. I tried to make sure they weren’t sticking out much. I’ve had friends pulled over for no doors and no covers on their aftermarket lights. The paper ran an article stating the state troopers were going to crack down on these a few years ago. I switched to half doors to avoid any issues.

I would assume it's not legal to drive without doors in most states. I know in Utah it's not. I suppose if there were such thing as DOT approved tube doors they would be okay. For the most part you're probably fine as long as you have mirrors and don't have unrestrained kids or something...

It's kind of one of those weird things where only Jeeps can get away with going doorless. If you tried it in your Ford Taurus you'd probably get pulled over every block. Kind of like Harleys and straight pipes.

Guilty... I had a riced out Honda Civic and got hit in the passenger side door. It left a gap at the top of door and roof so I pulled the door and just decided to pull the other one and drove with no doors on it for a few weeks. I never got pulled over or in trouble luckily but did get some funny looks.
