Same crap happened to me last night. Glad I had nothing in there as I was trying load my bass and my amp. Threw them in the back seat instead, got to the studio and the tailgate was opened. Ooops.
Read this Saturday night after casting about for information on tailgates not opening. Sure enough, somewhere along a drive this AM it popped open.

Also have the RR hard trifold, as some others mentioned. No big deal, got plenty of ideas from you all to manage it on a go forward. Thank you!!

We often have freezing rain ahead of snows. Then a day later the temperature takes a dump. Minus 8 when I got up. I think it might reach 0 today, hoping for a little bit more.
This is the worst I've found. Rain of freezing rain followed by a hard freeze. The water gets everywhere then solidifies.

We've had daily snow in NH for the past few days, cold dusty snow, and generally 0 deg, give or take every morning. No issues.

My tailgate was frozen to the tonneau. Once I got it opened, sprayed top of tailgate and bottom lip of cover with silicone. Seems to have worked so far.
Yep had the same thing happen to me this past week with freezing rain. Did a quick run to the store to get a few things and when I came out to open my tailgate it was frozen stuck. I kept thinking what they hell. So when I got home I was trying to see and sure enough the trifold cover had frozen to the tailgate. It was like a block of ice between the two.

I’ve had this happen a half dozen times a season. Might try the silicon trick. But in all my cases I’ve used the ice scraper to pry a wedge between the tonneau and tailgate. Always have it out in these conditions anyways to move snow and ice.
