I'll be ordering a Gladiator Rubicon 2023...soon. I'll be adding 37" tires and setting it up for some Overland type adventuring. I will not be towing a trailer, however, will be adding a Topper/tent. I have a few questions and am hoping for some input.
The Diesel can be ordered with 4:10 gears, so, I'm thinking the Diesel w/4:10 and 37" is fairly simple with not much more needed since the Rubicon has a 2" lift already(?). I may add a Terraflex 2.5 later if the stock just isn't enough with some xtra heavy rear springs due to the weight in the bed. Do you think the 4:10/37"tire and Diesel is going to be enough for 8th gear cruising? Who has this set up?

The alternative is of course the 3.6l. Same basic set up above, however, a gear change to 4:88. Who is running this? How is the freeway driving?

BTW, This truck will not be used for a DD. Just fun.

I’m not saying your wrong but since the Ecodiesel has been put in the Gladiator it has only been offered with 3.73. Even when you build a 2023 Rubicon it forces you to 3.73. Just may want to check on that with your dealer.

Think they might be talking about doing a regear… since they also mention 4.88 in the gasser. I hope so, since all the diesels come with what the previous poster added. Does Aev even change gears from the diesel jt370s (only mention this because the op basically just described a jt370)

you should go the 3.0 section and read about it's known nuances and see if you are ok dealing with them. IF you don't like turning wrenches, don't know a axle shaft from a drive shaft, having the potential of being down for months with no second ride, then the ecoD might not be your cup of tea.

I enjoy getting greasy and solving issues and don't commute my ecoD and i have been very happy with it. But there are others on here that didn't know what they were getting into and are down right pissed.

FYI, the EcoD will not come with 4:10's no matter trim, the build website is goofy. All EcoD's come with 3.73 gears period.

Not sure if you can order 4.10 with the diesel or not. But, I just switched from a 3.6L with 4.88 and 37s to a diesel with 3.73 and 37s and the difference is night and day.

No issue for the diesel with 37s to grab 8th gear. Above 75 it will kick down in to 7th more frequently. I think if they offered 4.10 it would be spot on.

The 3.6 with 4.88 was good around 60/65, but above that it was constantly between 5/6/7/8 depending on speed/terrain. Just felt like it was always working hard. The 3.6 is great, but for 37s I’d recommend 5.13.

A lot of opinions I’m sure, just my two cents.

Rubicon doesn't have a lift. The springs are taller than all other trims except Mojave. Gains are around an inch.
The Rubicon (and Mojave) have high flares instead of the standard flares that gives about 1" more clearance in the wheel wells.

With that said, most Rubicon diesel owners complain about the suspension bottoming out quite easily.

So, if you want a diesel, unless you want the lockers and 4:10 transfer case, buy another trim and use your saved money to lift it to where you want it. Yes you can fit 37's on a Rubicon but no you can't wheel it much without lifting it.
