The 2021 Rubicon on 37's that I traded in I purchased used. It weighed 5400lbs empty. The previous owners lifetime mpg was 12.79 mpg. I put 7,700 miles on it and the mpg in the picture is what I averaged. The only variable was driving style and location. My first Gladiator was a Sport S with 3.73 gears and a couple of times I got over 27 mpg. So I am no doubter, just saying. Remember the expression " you pay to play ", well the previous owner traded it in on a new Mustang GT. I took have been told that that mpg with 37's is impossible...but it is.

Definately did buy and build a JTM for mpgs.

Funny enough, before the JTM I had a '10 Tahoe PPV that I built. Heads, big cam, 3200 stall converter with 3.73s.......I would still get 22mpgs on the highway on 93, cut it in half when I ran E85, avg 8.8 mpgs

I don't buy anything with that as my main concern. But at 3-4k miles a month I do try to get the best that I can. Just wanted to comment on what they are capable of. Heck, I got 23 mpg out of a 2016 Charger Hellcat. I purchased all three Gladiator 's because a I like them and there immense capabilities stock or modified.

Cruise control is far from optimal. It shouldn't be hard to get 10-20% over EPA estimates. Most drivers don't because they are impatient, impulsive and largely unaware of how their driving habits kill fuel economy.

That said, my Gladiator 3.6L is the worst vehicle I've ever driven for uphill driving. It likes to rev to 4k with the dash showing about 6 mpg. Round-trip fuel economy is always less than twice the one-way, so if you let it do that you're looking at 12 mpg max round-trip on those sections. I can do better by shifting to a higher gear and letting it slow some, but 9-11 mpg is about the best I can do on such uphill sections.

It takes exactly twice the power to propel a vehicle at a certain speed uphill vs on level ground. That speed is the downhill terminal speed of the vehicle rolling freely. On the hill I'm thinking of it's about 60 mph. I get over 25 mpg at 60 mph on level ground, but I can't get half that uphill. That means the 3.6 is less efficient in producing the second half of the required power than the first half.
