I’ll be sure to call the police and let them know that @kb5zcr said they are either lying or not communicating their process correctly. Will be sure to post a reply with their response. Thanks for your service @kb5zcr

When someone is arrested and car impounded, a warrant isn't needed, what they do is an "Inventory" of the impounded vehicle so that when the owner gets it back he can't say "hey, my laptop is missing". This is common for any impounded vehicle. I don't know what the police told you but they do inventory impounded vehicles.
This is only half true. An inventory is done on an impounded vehicle, however, am inventory cannot be done for the purpose of finding evidence of a crime. As the police suspect the car is full of stolen goods, they will need a warrant to conduct a search of the vehicle or risk having all the evidence they find tossed out by the court.

Also be sure to tell them you left your windows wide open and your keys in your cup holder in a junky filled neighborhood so at least the guy responsible catches a little bit of a break.

Thank you for more useless insights @Mister Lamb. I did not lie to the police, I told them exactly what happened, guessing from your comment this is not what you would’ve done.

I live in Redmond, it’s one of the safest zip codes in the country. Unfortunately junkies don’t follow zip code boundaries sometimes.

You aren’t helpful and you aren’t useful, it would great if you weren’t vocal either.

edit: Found the ignore button, yey. Have a nice life.

Anyone who is sufficiently motivated to steal your stuff will steal it. Locks only keep honest people honest; windows can be broken, soft tops cut, locks picked or broken - Junkies will take anything that isn't nailed down and most things that are.

Everyone makes mistakes, I've had stuff stolen out of my car despite being sure I locked it. Maybe the button got bumped in my pocket? Who knows. Everyone is allowed to screw up and the natural consequences that help us remember are dealing with whatever was lost or the damage that was done; no need to rub salt in the wound.
