Anyone in here hanging their Alu-Cab Explorer Canopy from your garage/shop ceiling using the rooftop rails?

Weighing in at just under 130lbs (w no accessories) those roof rails should be able to handle it. Right?

(Pics for attention)

I should probably include that I have been storing it, on the rare occasion when it's removed, by putting lumber under it... which is getting old.

Not using the lumber will remove a handful of headaches.

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely! These canopy’s are very well made and can easily support itself with the rails.

I'd get 4 eye bolts and do that in moment. I just hook to top of mine, it's a RLD topper, I've got U-strut on mine. I do know using 2x4s to lift my R.T.T. on and off is a P.T.A. So I understand your pain.

My hoist isn't that technical 3 4x4s with a screw winch outside.

I have a Harken Hoist that I bought for my Wrangler hardtop a while back. It seems work fine to lift & hold, then I add separate straps as independent redundant support... because we have to park under them.

My hoist is quite a bit more crude but works, I plan on relocating it and improving it some.... more bracing and adjusting the pulleys to line up better. With that I lifted the topper off my trailer and installed it. Should be some pictures on a old thread here somewhere.

The concrete blocks was what I set my R.T.T. on other than one on right side it's keeping it semi level. I currently don't have a flat spot in my driveway.;)

Did you end up doing this with some eye-bolts inside the rooftop rails?

I'm picking up a contour and would like to have the option of doing the same thing with a ceiling hoist I have. I will have the alucab load bars so I thought about just putting the straps under them and hoisting it up. I know these things are super light so I can't see why it would hurt or wouldn't work.

I could not bring myself to hang in from only the roof rails.

I used 2x4 lumber that supported the topper in the same way it sets on the Trail Rails in the truck bed (as shown above but you can't see the 2 2x4s on the inside), then lifted it to the ceiling with a Harken Hard Top lift system. I did it 4-5 times before I eventually sold the topper, because I sold the Gladiator.

After doing it a couple times I got pretty good & quick doing it.
