All my life I have been a Completist, although until recently I did not know it had a title.
When I buy something, I start looking at accessories and add-ons for whatever I just purchased. Vehicle, electronics, firearms, whatever. I have to "complete" the collection of everything I own. I find crap I didn't even know existed, yet when I see it, I GOT to have it to complete my collection !! Not to get on a gun thread, but the AR platform is the only hobby were I didn't go overboard with tacti-cool add-ons; to me that's just silly and makes the rifle look cartoonish. I even saw a bottle opener that is M-Lok, I kid you not. My rifles are kitted out like how the Marines issued my M16A1 way back in 1979. Bare bones.
When I got my Gladiator, I naturally started looking at accessories. I maintained...somewhat. I got little things; trail rail for the bed. Molle panels for the trail rails. Then had to add stuff ON the Molle panels, of course; shovel, axe, fire extinguisher, first aid kit. Rubber bed mat. OEM grab handles on all 4 doors. Side steps. I had to literally talk myself out of getting a winch, I know deep in my heart I'll NEVER use it. The Completist in me says it HAS to be there on the bumper. I'd like to say I'm done with the Jeep, but we all know that's a lie.
I recently got my GMRS license so I can use the handhelds I've had for years. Now I'm ordering spare batteries, storage cases, hand mics; crap I do NOT need but now I gotta have it. How did this all start ? Radio clip for my Bulletpoint Mounting System. That got the ball rolling. I bought the RubiGrid and mounts for 50 bucks from a neighbor down the street that sold her Gladiator. Well, we can't have empty mounts on the thing, can we ??
This morning I ordered the Jeep branded Midland GMRS radio for my Gladiator. Did I need it ? Of course not. Will I spend up-teen hours finding the "perfect" spot to mount it ? Of course I will. Now I'm looking at antenna options, no-drill brackets, etc.. It never ends.
My wife, bless her heart, tolerates me. She says it better than me spending money on booze or girlfriends. She says she always knows where I am; at home putting something together. I'm retired, she still works. We have a Ring cam and whenever it goes off, I get a text, "What'd you buy ?".
