All my life I have been a Completist, although until recently I did not know it had a title.

When I buy something, I start looking at accessories and add-ons for whatever I just purchased. Vehicle, electronics, firearms, whatever. I have to "complete" the collection of everything I own. I find crap I didn't even know existed, yet when I see it, I GOT to have it to complete my collection !! Not to get on a gun thread, but the AR platform is the only hobby were I didn't go overboard with tacti-cool add-ons; to me that's just silly and makes the rifle look cartoonish. I even saw a bottle opener that is M-Lok, I kid you not. My rifles are kitted out like how the Marines issued my M16A1 way back in 1979. Bare bones.

When I got my Gladiator, I naturally started looking at accessories. I maintained...somewhat. I got little things; trail rail for the bed. Molle panels for the trail rails. Then had to add stuff ON the Molle panels, of course; shovel, axe, fire extinguisher, first aid kit. Rubber bed mat. OEM grab handles on all 4 doors. Side steps. I had to literally talk myself out of getting a winch, I know deep in my heart I'll NEVER use it. The Completist in me says it HAS to be there on the bumper. I'd like to say I'm done with the Jeep, but we all know that's a lie.

I recently got my GMRS license so I can use the handhelds I've had for years. Now I'm ordering spare batteries, storage cases, hand mics; crap I do NOT need but now I gotta have it. How did this all start ? Radio clip for my Bulletpoint Mounting System. That got the ball rolling. I bought the RubiGrid and mounts for 50 bucks from a neighbor down the street that sold her Gladiator. Well, we can't have empty mounts on the thing, can we ??

This morning I ordered the Jeep branded Midland GMRS radio for my Gladiator. Did I need it ? Of course not. Will I spend up-teen hours finding the "perfect" spot to mount it ? Of course I will. Now I'm looking at antenna options, no-drill brackets, etc.. It never ends.

My wife, bless her heart, tolerates me. She says it better than me spending money on booze or girlfriends. She says she always knows where I am; at home putting something together. I'm retired, she still works. We have a Ring cam and whenever it goes off, I get a text, "What'd you buy ?".

šŸ˜‚ā€¦ That sounds like me……. ā€œWhat’d you buy?ā€
I’m not a completist. In fact…I’ve got my Dad’s ā€˜tight’ genes - never wanting to spend $. The hubby is always telling me to go buy new clothes, girly things, yadda yadda yadda. I’m happiest in an old pair of jeans, t-shirt, and sneaks.

Iā€˜m more of a ā€œPurpose-letistā€ - ā€œFunction-letistā€. šŸ˜‚
Buying stuff that has a purpose or function. Yea…my fullsize comp gun got some upgrades for function (faster, less recoil, ect). Loooooove it!

Oh, I watch the pennies on things that don't matter to me; clothes for example. Years ago my wife threw out one of my favorite shirts; an old work shirt that I wore occasionally. When I was a young'n, I worked at a bar called the OBI South. Famous bar on Long Island. OBI stood for Oak Beach Inn. There was an OBI East out in the Hamptons. You all know the OBI South without even knowing it. That bar invented the Long Island Iced Tea drink. Yep, THAT drink. That place was a blast to work in, always crowded and you always saw some celebrities milling about.

Anyways, the shirt was a polo-type tan shirt with a brown collar. Except the collar was the then-standard 70's collar - wide pointy collar !! BIG printing on the back that said OBI South.

I loved the shirt, my wife hated it. I said it was classic, she said it was dated. One day, no more shirt.

All I can say is you're a piker compared to some I've seen here!

However, identifying the problem is the 1st step to a cure!šŸ¤‘

I’d never throw away anything that was his. He keeps buying new stuff. I have to constantly remind him ā€œI’m running out of room - you’ve gotta PURGE!!!ā€
If he doesn’t purge…I keep ā€˜stuffing’ the shirts in with the others (on hangers).
That makes them wrinkly and hard to find….not my problem anymore. 🤣
……the only shirts I will iron, are his work shirts.
And even those, need purged!!!! 😳

When we first started dating in 1988, I took her to my apartment. On my couch was a pair of parachute pants. Black nylon with zippered pockets everywhere. She held them up and said, "Oh wow !! I remember these !! You don't wear these outside, do you ?".

I lied and said, "Of course not !!".

I wore them outside the night before when me and my buddies were shooting pool and drinking beer....

Retarded...err... I mean Retired
So that's the name for this condition. I got it from my dad. He was all in on whatever hobby he was in. Taking pictures with a camera? Why not learn to develop your film? Shoot guns? Have to reload all your ammo. The list goes on and on....
