Help with exterior mirror

Greetings!
It’s been a while…
I’m looking for some advice. My left exterior mirror has started rattling at almost any speed. If I reach out and touch it, it stops rattling.
My question is, how do I open the housing to add damping material to stop the annoying rattling?

Is the glass rattling, or the plastic housing?

For me, applying pressure to the external housing only, stops the vibration.
Mirror seems secure.

The glass is solid, it’s the housing that rattles. If I can get it apart, I can add some weather stripping or some such to tighten things up and stop the rattle.

The mirror isn’t loose, the housing rattles. Even a slight pressure on the housing stops the rattle.

You can remove the back of mirror housing and apply very small amount of clear silicone sealant to the inside edges. The rear mirror housing is attached by plastic tabs. Use a thin plastic blade to separate the back from the front and clean the areas where you apply the silicone. Have a wet cloth or paper towel to wipe any silicone that might come out between the back and front housings. I did both driver and passenger mirrors.

I’d like to get my hands on a junkyard mirror to take it apart and see if we can solve this for you. I find that taking things apart always teaches you. But if it’s expensive and won’t go back together…that’s 729 stories from my childhood. I still learned.
