I feel like FCA has a fascination with red (not to mention all black with no contrast). Their all red leather interiors are simply awful, but they are bound and determined to link them to their SRT line for example. Some may find them sporty; I think they are garish/awful/off-putting etc. I love the Durango SRT, but the all-black and all-red options keep my money in my pocket. Finally (hoping) FCA is adjusting to market with the new Ram interiors. Quite nice.

We spend a lot of time inside our vehicles. To me, the interior dynamics are huge. I have (with my boat) and will (with the JT) adjust my exterior color to coordinate with the interior color I like. In the case of the JT, I can do that. With the 'Rango, I couldn't.

In short, I believe they are attached to signature colors. That's understandable from a marketing context. But I feel it doesn't necessarily transfer from one model to another (Challenger to Durango; Wranger to JT).

I also wonder if Jeep's research referred to above is outdated . . . I merely wonder. :)

It is interesting that this is such a polarizing subject for people. I retired from the automotive interior trim world a few years back, but know the harmony people here at the big three that pick everything from thread color to feel of the headliner material. It is a very big deal with these guys and gals, and I assure you the vast majority of the Rubicon owners love their red dashes, and the team at FCA had all the data and focus group feedback that validates their decision, let alone the sales numbers don't lie. The red dash issue is sort of like the reading restaurant reviews online, you never here from the thousands of people who loved their experience, you only here from the 10 that didn't. The reality is 91% love it, and 9% don't, great part about Jeep is that it is super easy to change up in the aftermarket so no big deal.
The sales number of Rubicons do not reflect a like/dislike of red accents in the interior. The prime driver is the equipment that comes on a Ribicon. I would love to see the data that you are referring to that supports your comment. That focus group you refer too, what did the population consist of? Potential Rubicon buyers or a random population of people that only saw only a rendering of just the interior? Stand alone the contrast to the black is great looking but when you consider how it ties together with the rest of the vehicle not so much...….

I agree with futzin…...I think somebody high up loves the red and views it as a branding like a Nike swoosh.

Well, all I can say is this was my business, I was successful enough at it as a small business owner that it allowed me to very comfortably retire at 43, so I do speak from a position of having some first hand knowledge. I’m still cursed to look at every gap, color, and the fit and finish of every car i get into though lol. I assure you that the few people here who post they dislike the red dash are in the extreme minority. These things are tested and hashed over a zillion times, it’s not one dude who likes red...it’s the buying public speaking with their checkbooks. It is okay not to like it too.

Now I’m really confused. There are 2 Hydro Blue Rubicons on autotrader with pictures. Both of them DO NOT have the red dash. They are grey. Which is what I wanted. However, there is a post on here stating the the Pumpkin grey dash was a mistake and they will be getting the red dash now. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?? I want a Hydro Blue with the grey dash but worried about ordering it and getting the red dash. I may have to ask my dealer to do a trade if there are blue ones on other lots with the grey dash at the end of November.
Looks like the red dashes have made their way into blue rubicons. Sucks major donkey balls. Looks like I will be going Sport.

You know you can change it out for like 300 bucks right?

I think it would be more than that for labor. I will check autotrader and cars.com to see if there are any left over grey dashes before I buy a sport.

Reduce your offer by $500, make it part of the deal.

I honestly don’t think a dealer would fool with it because it would sale the way it is. For everyone that hates it, there is someone who loves it.

I’m personally ok with the red dash. There are red accents all over the Rubi already anyway, so it should work out ok. My brother has a white Glady Rubicon and he loves his red dash, but he thinks the gray dash would look better with the blue and he figures them being different in some colors is ok. He thinks the Rubi models with the accidental gray dash might be sought after later since it was a mistake. He’s probably right, especially with Punk’d. Anyway, everyone has an opinion and preference and that’s ok. It’s subjective and you can definitely change it out if you don’t get the dash color that you were hoping for. It’s a Jeep after all. It’s all about customizing your rig how you want it. So all good, right! I’m just happy to see all the Hydros, Gobis and Gators finally hitting dealers!!

i don’t think it has Squat to do with ā€˜branding’. Just go to an auto show - practically All of the high-end cars have the red stitching. It’s merely a ā€˜me too’ thing.
