So true. It's taken me a long time to realize your "today" is their past. If you want their memories to be full of good feeling of their dad you have to spend every "today" making these memories for them. It's the only way we live on in their minds later.
You get it man. I can't tell you how many times one of my sons says to me, do you remember when we did this, or did that, and while much of it I remember, some of it I don't but they sure do. When your kids come back to you in their 20's and you can change that relationship from parent to parent/confidant/friend, it's a good feeling inside.

Call me an old softy or sentimental but stuff like this really makes me emotional, hence the post. You couldn't be more right. I guess my goal is when my kids are at my funeral they'll sit around drinking scotch and smoking a really good stogie reminiscing..."do you remember when that crazy bastard took us in the Jeep truck and got us stuck in 2 ft of snow for 4 hours? I thought we were gonna have to walk 10 miles in 20 degree temps." I gauruntee we wouldn't have these memories in a CRV.

OP's photos and writeup should go straight into the book of how to raise kids right. This is about as good as it gets.
