I have a new 2021 JTRD that I have been absolutely loving the last few months! One of the best parts of owning a jeep so far has been mapping out the mods I want to do, and it has led me here...

I understand wheel offset and backspacing. What I am having an impossible time picturing though, is how far my tires are going to stick out past the fenders...I currently have 37x12.5 17's waiting in my garage, and am looking at a -12mm, 4.53BS 17x9in wheel, no spacers. Can anyone help me out here?

The reason I'm looking for ~4.5BS for my future lift...any advice about that, like maybe lifts around 3.5 that dont require that, would be helpful. Thanks Hive Mind.

Hard to know exactly but -12 9" wide rim with a 12.5 tire is probably going to be in the 2.5"-3" range depending on where you measure it.

Damn, that far huh? I need to look at some more pictures to put that in my head, that seems like a lot...although I guess it's all preference.

I cannot show you 37s.. I can show 35x11:50x17 on 4.5BS on 8.5" rims.. about 1 tread block is outside the fender..

without looking, I think stock wheels are 6.2" backspace.
This can help compare wheel/tire combos, since both have an effect on poke to some extent.

And I think 4.5" BS is pretty conservative for most lifts, some have told me 4.7 to a little over 5" is probably ok. The shape of the control arm and articulation makes a difference.

37's on 8.5" wheel with 0 offset. So -12 will be a little less pokey.

@jay21mojave @DankjeeP @cdyoung9799 @jjdustr340

Thanks yall, this is helping out a lot. I see a lot of 11.5's...I should probably get out there an measure my tires, they are second hand after all. Based on these pictures, it doesnt seem like a crazy amount of variation.

I think cdyoungs would probably be the closest to what I'm looking at currently, his might actually stick out a tad more.

Yeah, mine honestly stick out just a little farther than I would have preferred, but I've learned to live with it. Given the trouble locating the size tires I wanted, it was a minor concession. Good luck.

If it helps, here's another shot of mine from an angle.
