I like this option best. But dangit caps are so derned expensive....
Definitely not cheap and don't "cheap out on a half-ass one if you do. I "lucked in on mine" I sent emails to multiple companies trying to get information on them. No email back, then I decided to make phone calls, some didn't even answer or return calls. Multiple calls and to distributers I got the lucky and deal that was actually the brand I was wanting but white doors not black with windows even. I got it at substantial markdown as the Gen 3 was supposed to be replacing gen 2. Still in crate stacked in warehouse. Fast shipped, some hiccups (with shipping company) and mess up on it being actually a first generation, that turned out better with RTT for me. I actually got the topper and RTT for less than any brands of topper alone. Likely many people on here have spent more on 3 rims than I spend on the topper and RTT. Along with that, check market place, eBay and others. Scratched can be refinished I had the doors covered with bed liners fair price. So phone call is cheap.
FYI I definitely wouldn't have my firearm in a plastic case strapped on the rack, I live in the "sticks" . Actually the only places I've had stuff stolen is "good neighborhoods and so called secure places. I had my XJ broke down in a less reputable location for a few days and when I got back to tow it I found I had not locked it up nothing was touched. Multiple Craftsman tool boxes and ECT. Maybe they had pity at some guy breaking down with a jacked up XJ on crutches and left foot looking like a huge Q-tip.

I started off with a rack system myself. Biggest issue was keeping stuff dry. That and running out of room on the rack to mount stuff. Then I ditched the rack and went with a cap with a RTT on top. Then did a diy rear seat delete system and bed drawer. Couldn’t be happier.
