My new Gladiator Mojave is almost hear and I ordered with factory bed liner but no trail rail system. Besides locating the screw holes and cutting out the bed liner around them, is there anything else to worry about when installing the OEM trail rail system?

The sprayed-in bed liner shouldn't completely cover the holes. All you'll need do is run a tap through the holes to chase (clean) the threads. Treat it like you're cutting new threads, and you'll be fine.

As Kevin_D said but you can use a few metric bolts to chase the threads but it's a real PTA and could strip and or snap them off. I did the latter on a counts about.? Luckily I didn't strip threads hole in bed. A few will be a real SOB to get out again. I couldn't find my damn metric tap & die set?

Great, thanks for all the info. I plan on getting a KB Voodo Max Modular bed rack thingee and would rather use the trail rails as attachment points.

Takes about 2 minutes to clean the hole and run a tap thru it real quick to clean the threads. Added like 5 minutes total on to my tonneau cover install. Really not an issue

You should use a thread chaser or a bolt to clean the threads. Using a tap to clean threads can take material from the threads and weaken them.

Does anyone know the the thread sizes for the tap? Like metric/SAE and size and if threads are fine or not. I got a set of taps and dies and it's proving hard to figure out which size to use. I am trying to find a die that matches the screws so I can use the same size tap for the bed lined holes. I may be missing a size. The hex holes I assume I would just take an exacto razor and cut it out.

I think it was 6X1mm. I tried cleaning the holes out with a countersink and .30 cal cleaning brush with no luck, the material is on too thick. I used a tap and it went well. If you use the tap in a drill with a clutch set very low you could probably do all the holes in about a minute.

Great, thanks. I have an M6 X 1.0 I am just worried about cross threading but in this case cutting the threads different. I will try to clean the entry holes well before doing it to see if it will start to self thread before I crank on it.

threads were jammed with bedliner. I put a hot solder iron in it to warm up the material (<5min), then used the Torx M6 from the tailgate as a thread chase. In/out 2x and all was clear.

Check the trail rail instructions to see what size bolts they use.

I got it. It was forever ago though. I think I took the screw to the correct die and then found the corresponding tap.

I used this method (the cut groove) and it worked really well...
