Internet service for remote Locations Satellite?

This is what I call stage one of researching something. At this point price is not relevant to the conversation yet. I am looking for the best quality option involving equipment and service for internet by satellite that can be mounted in a Gladiator. Once a system is located that will work and hit all the bases, only then is the actual price looked at. If it turns out to be to high for what it is, you can shop around to see if there is a second option for a lower price, without sacrificing what you are looking for. If the first option does not do what you are looking for, then the price doesn't matter at all. If there are no other options but one, well then that's when you determine if it is worth the price.

Required throughput
Power usage
How much finagling you want to do
Budget (This is a big one, you cant just say I'll worry about it later)

I've seen most individuals just go either the single cell booster route or leverage a cradlepoint/pepwave lte or 5g hotspot router with SIMs from the big 3 if you need absolute cell coverage at sub $1000 monthly. Pair one of those devices with some good antennas and you'd have a solid setup.

If internet is a requirement 300 miles into the desert or something then your only option is satellite. In which case maritime already has this figured out if money is no object.

Spend a cool $35,000 and $1,800 a month for 180GB of data in the 5-20mbps throughput range.

Check coverage though, as this linked option isn't good for alaska! Also 135W typical, 240W peak power usage.

Thank you for the reply: Cell Boosters we have a bunch of options. They are pretty inexpensive and as long as we have service that will work.

The real issue is a simple sat system with all the components that will work. Check out: https://satellitephonestore.com/catalog/sale/details/thales-missionlink-350 .Also at the Sat phone store. This looks like it has all the components to install on a Gladiator. If it is as good as it sounds, under 10K seems like a good price for what it offers. They have a bunch of land packages right on the same page for service, but I will be honest, I am not a tech guy and do not have any idea how many MB or GB we would need.
We are planning on talking to our IT guy next week and asking what we might actually use running our programs, emails, banking etc. We do not need videos, games, etc, but it would be good if we can also search the area for anything we need or places of interest.
I think some of the marine stuff may work, but I would hope it is built to different standards to handle the salt and weather. Not sure if that is necessary or beneficial for what we are doing.

Yeah, talk to your IT and see what they recommend for minimum connection speed, latency, and an idea on data usage.

It really depends on what you are trying to access. Plain text email(no or limited images) and some calling or txt messaging you'd likely be fine on one of the lower iridium certus plans(300MB maybe). As long as you aren't expecting to be working 6 hours everyday.

But if you need to remote into a computer or access other line of business apps/websites you may run into speed issues and data usage will be much higher. I wouldn't expect to be able to video conference or browse social media such as facebook/instagram.

Iridium certus is great from a coverage & reliability standpoint, but their data speeds and bandwidth cost make them a poor option for this in my opinion. They are a great option for emergency sat phones and navigation. For non-emergency internet connectivity they leave a lot to be desired.

Not to sound like a negative nancy but you sorta need to become a tech guy to make something like this work. If you dont even know what data speeds or integrity you need in order to function then that should be researched first and foremost. And if something fails while being remote you would have to either go to town or fix it.

I think a lot of people have a misguided idea that they can work full time from a computer hundreds of miles away from their business in total wilderness and expect nothing to go wrong thanks to all these youtube videos and instagramers. Props to them who are successful.

The only place I have personally seen systems that do what you are requesting was in the military. And they required a lot of everything to function well, reliably and at high speed. Cost, weight, size, technical needs, base station support, the list goes on. And even those systems which are life and death have problems. something consumer grade I have looked into in the past as well but it ended quickly. I do think starlink is the closest option but that has its own restrictions. There are ways to send simple data through HAM frequencies but likely it wouldnt support what your looking for (banking).

But I think its a cool idea to consider.

Anyone who is afraid of something occasionally failing, probably shouldn't be off road 4 wheeling, own a business or even a Jeep for that matter. Stuff happens, we adapt.
There certainly may be a lot of misguided people out there and also many "youtubers and instagrammers". I couldn't tell ya. what I can tell you is I have spent a lifetime in remote places in the wilderness all over the world. There have always been many challenges and there is always a way to make something work.
Technology is changing daily. Some people are very familiar on how it works and what is available, then there are some of us that can afford to pay for their expertise and work with what is available.
No matter what you want to do in life, there is always a way. I will check out Starlink and ad it to our list.
