It won't run underwater, for sure, but handles something like 15 gal/min.So when you first push into a deeper crossing and initially generate that bow wave, it normally only comes over the hood for a couple seconds, then you adjust speed. I was pushing a head of water in New Mexico, but that was with a snorkel. With my ancient CJ, I had water crash into the windshield, but back then I had no sense, and getting water into the distributor would kill the motor faster than hydro locking it.
Certainly- You nailed the most important part: Maintaining adequate momentum to create a bow wave.

Admittedly I've never stuck the Jeep or my previous trucks into anything that went up over the fenders but there was the one time I slid into a mud hole about as long and wide as my Tacoma and up to the sills and found out ARB bumpers are stronger than frame horns but that's another story...

Well, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I was a young US Armee tanker. I had detailed knowledge of the tank trails on Fort Knox. I'd scout them weekdays (your tax dollars at work), then drive them along with some other retarded tankers in our CJ-7s. So do you know how tall it is from the ground to the top of the fenders in an M-60 or M-1 Abrams? Yeah, so did I, but for some reason, that or physics did not seem to matter. On one historic weekend after we gave up trying to pull a buddy's F-250 out, another guy sunk his vehicle. We later gave him an honorary submariner's badge. Those days were epic, and primarily the reason that I bypass everything I can!

Those sorts of things build character.

In my case I was trying to bypass a dried out logging mat that was curled up. I didn't want it to grab something under the truck so I snuck to the side, the edge of the hole grabbed my wheels and pulled me right in. It took a 14K lb tractor and a hilift used as a fulcrum to get it out. After I nearly ripped an ARB off the front with the same tractor.

You're tight, all that builds character!
Or makes you a character
Or something like that...
