A few months ago purchased my Gladiator from the dealership, however it did not come with the LED lighting package, and this is the first thing I wanted to change on it. I recently purchased and installed aftermarket LED headlights and fender lights. The headlights work fine, however whenever I turn on my turn signals, I get an error code that reads "Front left turn signal light out" or Front right turn signal light out" whenever I use my blinkers.

I used my iCarPro OBDII code reader and used the JScan app to change the front turn signals to LED in the computer. I have tried doing this a few times, but I still keep getting the same code. I have also tried using the Tazer Mini, and the same code still shows.

Earlier today I called a local auto repair shop that works on Jeeps and they told me I might need to install load resistors. I just find it odd because with the many YouTube videos I have watched on this topic, they are able to do the LED fender light conversion and get rid of the code with out installing load resistors, and use either the JScan app or Tazer mini.

The error code is: B163A-15 "front left/right turn lamp control circuit short to battery or open"

Any suggestions on how else I can fix this issue?

I don’t use Jscan/tazer/PBD gizmos. But I replaced all my halogen lights (Headlights, Fender lights and Taillights) with LED units. Both the taillights and fender lights came prewired with resistors to keep from flashing error codes. The headlights were direct plug in play and I’ve had them on almost a year without any issues. I’ve seen where changing the code for LED doesn’t always work and still shows up error codes for lights out. I would suggest getting resistors and seeing if that helps keep away the error codes.

Did you go cheap or bargain price parts? Not all LED bulbs are the same........
No, you should not need resistors. The system should be programmable for different bulb types.

The BCMs in these vehicles are set for certain lighting so swapping from halogen to LED is not going to work reliably.

  • Go to adaptation
  • Go to LED Lights Settings
  • Go to LED Front Park/Marker Lamps settings and change to activate
  • Go back, and go to LED Front Turn Lamps present, change to activate
  • Go back twice, go to DRL Daytime Running Lights configuration. In here, there’s multiple things you have to change:
  • DRL Configuration: Optional DRL
  • DRL Dropout Enable: Active (turns off bright white lamp when amber is flashing)
  • DRL Lamp Location: Dedicated
  • LED Dedicated DRL Present: Active
  • Left Dedicated DRL Lamps Output Present: Active
  • Right Dedicated DRL Lamps Output Present: Active

The aftermarket lights I purchased also plugged directly to my factory fender light connection. Interesting how you had no issues, or no need to program. The lights I got do not have pre wired resistors, so I might give that a shot. What brand of fender lights do you have?

Hello, thank you for the response. I actually came across this thread before and I have done the same settings, but I still get the error code. The fender lights I purchased are from Jeep federation. Heres the link: https://www.jeepfederation.com/fend...-signal-lamps-for-jeep-wrangler-jl-2018-2020/

Ive noticed with other brand LED headlights, like Morimoto, include a module that I'm guessing is some type of load resistor, which my fender lights do not have.

The description for the lights you linked indicates they won't work for you, since yours came with Halogen lights.

Fitment
Jeep wrangler JL JLU Sahara and Rubicon US Version (not for Canadian Version, Only fits JL stock with LED lights)

Update:

So I purchased a new set of LED fender lights last week that was stated on the website to work with the Halogen Model JT/JL’s. I installed them yesterday, and the install went great. They had two large modules attached to each light which I’m guessing are load resistors. The lights work great, and I am no longer getting error codes.

Earlier today I noticed that my DRL’s are out on the fender lights. My previous set of fender LED lights worked fine, including the DRL’s, the only issue with my last pair was the error code.

I have tried multiple different settings using the JScan App but nothing seems to work. When I unlock my Jeep all the lights turn on like they should, including the fender lights, but when I go to drive they dont come on.

Currently on my third set of LED fender lights and this is turning out to be a much bigger hassle than I thought it would be.

Would anyone know how to fix this? The lights work fine, no codes, it's just the DRL’s that do not come on.

The lights I installed:
