Ordered my JTR diesel through Rob at Tuttle-Click in SoCal on 5/31, got a VIN pretty quickly but I'm still waiting for a scheduled date.

I've been eyeing the JTs for a while but hadn't seen a truck with the options I wanted, plus a few dealers around here are marking up big (hard pass). I had asked my neighborhood dealer about ordering and they really didn't seem interested in helping me with that, so I was amazed when I heard about the Tread Lightly program and that there is a dealer in SoCal that would honor a discount. Rob is only an hour away from me, so it was a no-brainer to work with him instead.

Now I'm just waiting ? Rob thought that they batched production of vehicles by color, I ordered Silver Zynith....it doesn't seem to be a super popular color, so I'm afraid I won't have a quick build. Also, some of the options aren't available due to supply constraints...I wasn't able to get the spray-in bedliner, headliner, or freedom panel storage bag because of supply issues. Hopefully knowing that and cutting those off of the order will speed up the process.

They have at least 3 paint lines. If you've watched the final assembly process, it's quite a mix of colors coming down the lines.
Granted, the body vendor - another building, another vendor, is where the bodies are painted, but still, there are multiple colors coming through their final body inspection.
There were no restrictions on any part or accessory when I ordered in May - couldn't get snazzberry, it was removed from the order screen, but everything else went through.
No one knows for sure, everyone, even dealers, are guessing on some of this.

Looking back at posts on these topics from 30 months ago, or even further back, when you go to D1 and there's an estimated ship date, it's been demonstrated to actually be the build date. It was the case with my first one, and several others indicated their estimated ship date matched the build date on their door frame sticker.
A theory is that the ship date is from body vendor to the line where it gets assembled. These aren't all build by the same people in the same building. Frames are built by one vendor, bodies by another, and finally, the pieces get shipped to the main building where the parts come together. So my thinking is that shipping means the body for yours will be shipped from the body vendor across the campus in another building to the main line.
In any case, looking back, the first ship date you get is almost never when it actually ships.

Then on the topic of shipping - several people have said that theirs took weeks, even months - one member said it was over 7 weeks and even Jeep was opening an investigation to try to find his truck - they lost track of it once it went to shipping.
Ironically, my neighbor has a fellow staying with them for a couple of weeks while he and his wife move to another state - and this guy tracks railroad cars and shipments for companies. The railroads don't own the rail cars, other companies do, it's rather complex the way he explains it. I said - hey, someone said their truck was listed as shipped, went by rail - but no one knows where it is almost 2 months later.... and my neighbor responded - that's what this guy does - tracks down things like that.

Interesting job. And found the sounds of things - it keeps him very busy traveling the country.
They evidently found my truck (ordered 2/25, built 4/14) after sitting on the Toledo lot since 4/14. It now is on the train (see image) and hopefully will head west in our lifetime.

Yes, the TBD date was the build date as Bill noticed, and the dealers do have the best and most up to date data.

Thanks for the article. Its very informative and interesting (IMO), especially considering it was written just prior to COVID screwing with supply chains and labor pools. It sounds like the transport of trucks via train was already strained and problematic. I can only imagine it is currently a nightmare. It certainly does not give me any confidence in getting my truck shipped to CA quickly...
I just traveled between Albuquerque and San Diego on I-25 to I-10 to I-8 and back all with major railways parallel. There were literally thousands of cars on that route. We must have seen 30 or more tremendously long trains, none of which had the auto cars, but that was pretty far south. My Gladiator is on a train somewhere and due in Phoenix, then trucked to ABQ. Still part of the waiting game.

About an hour after I posted, I received an e-mail from the Kent at Peterson saying it's on the train with a delivery date to Utah hub on 6/19.

I already have a shopping cart of parts waiting for me to click the "buy" button lol
I had a lot of fun building up my Wrangler, now excited to focus on the Gladiator

It's funny, mine is supposedly coming to the PHX hub rather than Utah, although for New Mexico either would work.

It seems like the Wizard of Oz at Toledo makes decisions behind a curtain that seemingly are senseless, but since they produce about 800 a day, it really couldn't be.

With regard to paint lines and Gladiators, I like this video of Gladiator production:

Nice, thanks for the info - I'd seen the factory video a while ago and didn't put 2+2 together to think that they do have a mix of colors running at once.

And yeah, I'm not sure where Rob had gotten the info, but I'm guessing he does enough orders to know what items slow the builds down. I've got my hopes up again for a faster delivery now haha

That was a great video. Thanks
ShadowsPapa mentioned it, or at least one like it. Notice that in various parts of the assembly line there are multiple colors.

My JT is on a train! Went through Chi-town last night, hopefully somewhere west of there now. Delivery date is a wide range however...6/24-7/7 and I am not sure if that is to my dealer or just the railyard in Benicia. For reference I ordered 3/27.

How can I find out if my Jeep is on a train or in transit? The wait (actually the unknown) is killing me!

My dealer texts me with updates. The Jeep tracker runs well behind reality and doesn't provide any level of detail.
