As preventive maintenance for my 40" tires, I was doing some research and consulted the Google gods and ran into this:
"Large mud-terrain tires can lose shape or suffer damage if left sitting for too long, especially in the sun. This phenomenon is called flat-spotting, according to USA Wheels & Tires. Flat spots occur when the weight of the vehicle rests on the same portion of the tire for extended periods, causing the rubber to deform, especially in cold weather. "
I was surprised to read this because on my JKU I had 35's, 37s and 40s which sat at least 2-4 days in the hot sun without me driving it, sometimes even longer and I have never experienced this phenomena. I'm guessing when it comes to our JT's the weight difference between the JKU vs the JT is significant and could possibly cause this issue if your JT sits for long periods.
I'm just curious, has any of you with larger tires on your JT encountered this 'flat-spotting' phenomena? I work at home and hardly drive my JT, I just want to make sure this don't happen to my 40's being it does sit for at least 5 days in the scorching sun. I've seen these tire coushins or pads that prevents flat-spotting, I may look into this:
