Here's another way to keep the fob key from opening in your pocket. I opened up my fob, removed and reinstalled the spring to reduce the tension on the key blade. It's been several weeks and with the reduced key tension, the key never opens in my pocket.

Here's the inside of the fob with the cover removed. You need to remove the four torx (T6) screws.

Here's all the pieces of the disassembled fob.

Here's the key and spring in place ready to reassemble.

Detail of tab on spring and matching slot on case. The spring tab goes in slot on case. To reassemble with normal spring tension, you would need to rotate cover to wind the spring tighter before screwing the case back together.

Here's how far the key opens with the detensioned spring. The spring is not strong enough to open the key all the way.

I found a fobless key that will work with the JL locks. It's a 2016 renegade emergency key, also referred to as 2015 - 2016 Jeep Fiat High Security Emergency Key. I ordered online ($3) and had it cut local. There may be other keys that work, the dimensions are 3mm X 7.5mm.

A silicone cover is a easy and simple method to greatly reduce the possibility of the key opening in your pocket. It solved the problem for me.

These jackets and clips make it so the keys just stay on my belt loop and/or my "go" bags. One lives on a belt loop forever, moving to other pants as I change them. One lives on a hanger to be clipped to my swim bag, day trip bag, mountain bike bag, etc. Always there, always out of the way.

The black one is better, IMO. Bought on eBay.

Yeah, I bought into that idea and purchase and it helps a little against unexpected "switchblade" key erections mostly because the release button isn't as prominent
