No, I had a last generation with the T tops and no seats in the bed.
My first car was a '79 Brat with seats in the back. Fun little starter 'truck'!

You miss the point and of course, base it on our own greed and needs for more and bigger and more power.
They don't want that in other countries. They want to get around, reliably, and be able to get through tight spots where your Ram 1500 would be stuck.
They've got to sell globally, not just to you.
You can't afford to guess - and it's been that way since before you were even conceived. Market research has driven the auto industry for many decades. It takes years to develop a new platform - and a lot of $$ - and if they are wrong?? Then what?
Sticking your neck out doesn't beat competition - it causes failures.
Knowing what people want by asking them, then building for the largest number is how you succeed.
How did Korea and Japan trounce the US in autos - 20 year plans, not 5.
I used to think anto makers were making their trucks huge based on market, however people here said it had to do with Cafe standards.

So which is it?

My first was a 69 El Camino.
Often with sand bags or cinder blocks in the back to lessen it from being a nightmare in the snow/rain.
Guess I have a soft spot for weird truck like things.

Did the 79 have a hi/low transfer case?
My 86 did.

I feel bad for Subaru. Other than the El Camino Subaru had the Brat, they sold very well but went away. Then they came out with the Baja Sport which had lack luster sales and died an early death. They were on the cutting edge and now look what's popular:

The Jennifer PickUp, Honda Ridgeline, yes the original was designed around what a "Jennifer" would want.
Ford Maverick
Hyundai Sata Cruz
This fuglly Ram 700

Holly crap, I forgot about the Dodge Rampage 2.2!

No where close to a Ridgeline in both power and size, for me I'm a Ram owner and if it ain't got a 5.7 or larger, it would be out for me. Little toy trucks are just what they are, Little Toy Trucks.

Diesel trucks and cars are alive and well in other countries. Look at the new VW Amarok truck. I think 4 engine choices. All diesels. Very nice looking mid-sized truck by the way. Unsure if it we'll see it in the states.

While America attempts to force EV's on its people, other countries just keep manufacturing what their people want.

I was leaving the Home Depot and came across this RAM, parked next to me. It had Mexico plates…

It was a cool find, very different and just wanted to share. ??

These are all over Mexico. They also have another model called the Ram Adventure.

FWD or 4WD were the only options - at least in my model/year.

Not a great picture, but the only one I've found so far.

Somewhere in CT there is one I see once in a while in mint condition. Almost crashed looking at it. There was also a Subaru XT for sale on FB recently. Like the one pictured below.
