Mopar side steps - different part numbers

Found several with no suffix - and they say they fit Jeep Gladiator and list Overland, etc. etc.

kit - or individual parts? Most of what I found says "kit" but that may well be semantics.

I cannot disagree with that. I like the running board look myself, and I personally on MY truck, on THIS truck, wouldn't like chrome. Chrome tubular looked great on my Silverado but it was a very different blue, different looking truck and normal running boards like the Overland has would not have gone well on the Chevy, but the Gladiator Overland wears the running board look well, IMO.


Interesting thought.

And I've shown by pics of my truck after a winter drive, after a end of winter rain, driving on gravel, in mud, whatever, the stock Overland parts absolutely help protect the sides. As far as protecting from dings, meh, maybe if it's a Camaro parked next to you, but I have a small door ding on the left rear door - with more pickups and SUVs even grocery store parking lots these days, you'd have to lift that Jeep and have the "running boards" sitting high to protect against that F250 or Explorer door hitting you.


Maybe I need to talk my wife into some running boards or tube steps for her Jeep.............

One of first things I ordered for my LJ was Rock Hard Rock rails. Not long after I installed them I was parked by county courthouse waiting to go in after I got off shift some jackass pulled in next me then deliberately slammed door open trying to hit my brand new jeep. He intentionally did it enough to bend his door on the rock rail, I raised up and said that sucked for him. It turned in to one of the master card moments.... priceless. Normally it's not a great idea to do that especially when the owner is trying to get a nap before going into courthouse, in uniform after just getting off of a double shift too to be available for court. Adding the clown is there as a defendant in different case.

Except the Tasca web site shows 2020 only and shows they don't fit 2021 or 2022 and point you to the AB versions.

Since other parts DO fit, is that a boo-boo, a screw-up, or are they wrong?
I didn't know that Jeep changed things so much down there, different body panels and shapes, and different holes, to the point they have 1 year only parts.
Most likely, it says that because they went to the AB number and of course won't update the fitment listing for the later years.
Since the others say out of stock, I'd suspect they've been superseded and they would fit - but the number with no AB was discontinued in favor of the part number with the suffix.
In my experience with parts books over the years, when a part number is replaced with another, the earlier part number never gets changed to say it also fits the following year because there's a new replacement part.
My bet - yes, a bet - they fit. They aren't going to update an earlier number that's been superseded by the time the 2021s came out.

In a nutshell -
The parts places say they are out of stock. You will never see that exact number again with no suffix.
By the time the 2021 model year came out, they went to the AB number.
The non-AB number will fit but they aren't about to update parts listings to change fitment for later years for a part no longer shipping or available.
Same part, same shape, it will fit.
Listings for superseded parts don't get updated to say they fit later years.
At least not in the parts books I have.

I ran the stock overland steps when purchased, but took them off for the Rubi rails. Temporarily I put on the black tubular rails, not really a fan, and I'll put the Rubi's back on. The Mopar tubes will be for sale, probably $150 for the pair.

Differences between steps, is the O'lands have a lip to hide the pinch seam, and they are curved to match the curve of the cab... the Mopar tubulars don't.

Darn that's a good deal. I would take you up on that but you're a little far away

... and what happened to 82215610AA? The first part number issue is usually an AA suffix. It looks like maybe they forgot to issue the original part number with the AA suffix, so when the first revision was made they went directly to AB.

Yeah, 100% on that. Great question.

If you even try to search for that string of characters - "looks like there aren't any great matches" - uh, how about NO matches, even not so great ones.

prime example is the oil filters for the 3.6 as I'll list ones I've seen available MO-349, MO-349AA, MO-349AB.

I actually like the stock Overland side steps too myself. Although I’m selling mine now due to recently upgrading.

I personally like a full length step of any kind over rails or even drop steps. For me being able to step up anywhere on the side and not just at the doors like drop steps, is important.

since the stock ones are a full length step (although not the strongest protection) that’s why I waited for so long to upgrade. Much rather had focused on other things I didn’t have.

However, I just recently went with another full length step, the Go Rhino RB20s in the bedliner coating version and love them. Great upgrade from the stock ones in my opinion.

If it's the same base part number, it's the same size and shape part meant for the same vehicle. The letters are revisions to the part. It could be something about finish, minor fitment improvement, maybe the holes are made differently, whatever, but if it's the same part number aside from the letters indicating a revision, I'd bet if you laid them side by side, you'd have to look hard to see the differences.

Check with Benny, a forum sponsor, allmoparparts - he's got a thread titled how cam we help you or something like that. He can tell you what parts fit and he'll be honest about it.

BTW - who is the seal point siamese?
