Has anyone removed this piece for more airflow. It has tabs and is removable. Looks like it would work better with the air flow tube that enters from the front.

Without putting it in a wind tunnel, you have no idea what that may cause.

Taking the changes in direction out of play, you may create a vacuum across the face of the air box which would cause everything coming from the front snorkel to go out that opening.

Or, taking the changes in direction could cause turbulence in the air box not allowing enough airflow.

It's a crap shoot.

Besides, you'd have to change the tune to benefit from more air flow if you achieve it.

Sounds good, just wondering why that piece is made to be removable?

Less likely "made to be removable" than it's how best to mold and product that plastic casting.

Why do you *think* or *believe* you need more airflow on a 3.6 or 2.0 CID small engine?

I have to agree with this -

But I've covered in the past why these really don't need more air flow as far as that area.
They aren't going to pull enough CFM unless you run at constant high RPM and race these things.

If a simple mod could give more power and more mpg - one must assume the factory would have done it on day 1.

I don’t think it needs more airflow. I was just cleaning the air box and noticed that this part was removable. Just was curious

If you want maximum airflow with OEM parts, add the Mopar CAI. It replaces the top half of the box, and the air tube. It gives you the option to use the stock air filter, or the washable filter included in the kit. The only thing, other than looks, that changes is the sound. The Mopar CAI kit provides a larger air tube and removes all the baffling. The stock setup is able to provide all the air required by the engine.
