So I lease almost all my vehicle, why???? Because I like new vehicles every 3 years. Anyhow, I am 3 months out of the from the end of the Gladiator lease. Had a day off yesterday so I hit a couple dealerships (Chevy and Jeep) to see where I stand going forward. Here is what I was told.

2020 Sport S AT gasser with 33k miles
2” IRO Lift
BR Abrams with 35x12.5x20
All aftermarket LED lights
Many other additions totaling about $5k in extras, nothing too crazy.

My trade-in value currently in the Midwest is around $31-32k (My buyout in 3 months is around $32k with taxes). Wholesale is plummeting but retail is only slightly dropping on used and going up on new still. Just thought I would share for anyone who as curious. We see alot of “whats my jeep worth” threads.

Keep it! Unless you want a different truck. Used sports by me are still listed for at least what I paid for mine new. I built a 23 sport s on the Jeep site with the same options and the msrp was almost 7k more than the msrp was on my 21.

It's crazy that the dealerships shoot for an $8000 win when buying our cars/trucks. They give you $31,000 and sell for $39,000. Seems like a bit much to me. If they have to do that to make money, their overhead is way too high!

Carvana valued my 2021 Sport S at $32k as well here in Houston (26k miles). Small lift on mine and 35s. That’s about the only notable upgrades. They’ll turn around and list it for $38k-40k for sure

My truck is worth more than 32k to me so there’s zero chance I’d ever trade it lol.

Lifts and such actually reduce the value of your car (in the eyes of the stealerships) because they tell you it'll be harder to sell because not everyone wants that.

I experienced this when I sold my '08 Grand Cherokee Overland (Hemi) 4 1/2 years ago right before I moved to Kyiv, Ukraine (came back later because of family issues here at home, had to stay, and had total sellers regret :( ). They were going to give me ~$8K for it and I let it slip as I was asking for more BECAUSE it had a 1.5" lift and slightly larger than factory tires on it and I felt that that was worth something extra (only to me, obviously). Suddenly, that $8K dropped to $6K because they said that because of the lift, they'd have a more difficult time selling it as not everyone wanted that.

Jeeps and Tacomas seem to hold their value. When I was looking for a gladiator the price for a used one was about the same price as a new one

They also loose out on offering it as a CPO vehicle. Most will kick it to auction. I ran into this also on a modified GMC truck I had and was a relative late model trade in at the time. Mods were done nice and professionally but the dealership told me the same of them being slow movers on the used lot and dealership does not want to assume liability to selling a vehicle with mods not done by them.

You have to watch how a car lot values your trade when trading a Gladiator - most Gladiator VINs will come back as a base sport, you have to ensure your used car managers are being straight up and going in and "building" your vehicle. Same when trading a Tacoma, the vehicle will come up as and SR by VIN typically.
The market will even out when the fed quits playing with our money.

All the addons are actually of little to no value to the Dealership...

The best actions by myself and others on the forum is remove all the big items; wheels, LED lights, bumpers, winch, etc.

Find a dealer that will give you a fair trade in and move to another new Gladiator.

I had a leased 2020 that was coming to the end of the lease.
I first shopped trade in value at several dealerships.
They were all about the same.
They all said there was no value in the addons and they would give me the same with or without them.

So I stripped off everything I could that I knew I wanted on my new Gladiator.
I saved almost 2K in sales tax by trading in the 2020 for my 2022 plus I had $4 to $5k of accessories now sitting in my garage.

I had saved everything I changed on 2020 since I knew the lease would come due and I wasn't sure what I would do at that time.

I shopped around and picked up a 22 that had what I wanted, and I made the deal.
This time I bought the Gladiator, I didn't lease it.
I knew after 3 years with the 2020, I wanted to stay with the Gladiator.

I should also note, they sold my 2020 in about 3 days for 4K over what i received for my trade in. I had no problem with that since I got a good number on my tradein.

The Dealership have an advantage that private party sales don't.
More of a selection, EASY financing, and they take trade ins.

Good luck with whatever you decide...

I would say there is a 75% chance I buyout my lease. Its just crazy still and im not going to pay out the ass for something. I have 100% of all the OEM parts to put back on if I need to and will if I don't buy it. I have no desire to buy another Gladiator. I have enjoyed the Jeep but never loved it. I don‘t use it like a Jeep except a couple times a year. I will be going back to a full sized truck eventually Just not sure when everything will shake out. I appreciated all the replies.
