Ok so my wife told me my tires look cute today..... anyone running 40x13.5R17’s on a JT Rubicon? Looking at what lift and gearing was done. Will most likely stick with the Nitto Trail Grappler but need to start working on what this is going to cost..... I’ll use my existing Black Rhino Armory rims and fit my 35’s to the standard rims and mount them to my trailer.

DISCLAIMER: This is not an endorsement, just info.
The guy that just put my snorkel on did the regear of this one for SoFloJeeps on 40s.
(ya, they apparently do the cosmetic/suspension stuff but farm out engine/tranny stuff)
He put in 4.88s.

I wouldn’t run 40s without 1 ton axles and ram assisted steering

That just sounds like a lot of work and money lol. I’ll let the 35’s get a few more miles and then perhaps look at 37’s when the time comes. She is capable enough as is.

If you’re going there and building everything I’d say $7-10k. Buying built axles and paying for install, $17-20k

It’s your money but I’d buy a side by side built for rocks before turning a cool truck into a single purpose rock hopper personally

Agree, my kids ride their little Polaris ATV all over the place. I’m thinking to make it more an overlander. I’ve played on the rocks now and proved it’s capable enough.

Your Jeep, your $, your pride of ride so do as you see fit:

That said 40's and D 44 axles are not going to share a long life and that Jeep engine struggles on 33's. I ran 4:88's with 37x12:50's and considered that adequate. If I was your builder I would have put 5:38 cogs in a set of Dyantrac ProRock 60's F/R and I would go with the XD ProRock which is rated for 44 in tires. Running 40's bring a whole 'nother dimension to that jeep. You need a LOT more stopping power and as a stopgap measure I would get a set of EBC pads on there, but when is needed is a lot more rotor, the XD ProRock comes with a 13.5 inch f/r rotor.

There is nothing in the suspension/driveline that was ever designed to support 40's, you are so far outside your Jeep's designed parameters that you need to ensure it's safe. I will bet $ that the Jeep team has considered mods and built for it. But not at the level you have taken it...The original TJ Rubicon did not even use a Chrysler steering box, instead, the Rubicon came with a Mercedes HD unit, because Jeep knew folks were going to modify and add bigger tires etc.

I am sure your builder appraised you of all this before he bolted on a set of 40's.

I wish you the best, but you do have challenges and sure you and your builder can meet them.
