Thinking of upgrading my front bumper on my 2020 jeep gladiator. Do I have to put a lift kit before or will the stock gladiator be able to handle without?

No lift necessary for a bumper change. Depending on the weight of the new bumper, it may sag a little bit. If you go with aluminum, there should be little or no height change.

As he ^ said, a bumper won’t require addressing any lift issues, that’s a tire thing. But if you go with a steel bumper that’s a bit heavier and introduces some additional front end sagging you can go with a simple (and much less expensive) leveling kit for the front end.

The steel bumper group comes with heavier springs. The factory steel bumpers are very light since they’re stamped steel so some of that is to accommodate a winch. However most aftermarket bumpers are heavy because non-OEM manufacturers don’t have access to expensive stamping machinery that can produce a light but strong bumper (AEV is one exception), although their bumpers aren’t exactly lightweight.

I would look for a bumper marketed as lightweight (stubby doesn’t necessarily mean lightweight), or consider stiffer springs. Also, you will want stiffer springs with a winch. If you don’t plan on running a winch, I probably wouldn’t spend the money on a metal bumper at all. It doesn’t really add anything other than weight. It certainly doesn’t add safety to passengers or pedestrians.
