Hi, New to the forum. I leased a 2023 Gladiator last month, I'm loving the truck, if I like it I'll buy the lease out. I had a 2012 Jeep Liberty before this truck. No big problems with it till she just got to old. How good is the trans and engine on these Jeeps. I'm reading about dry starts, early engine wear. I have the V-6 gas job. Also valve ticks, Aux battery problems. I'm keeping it stock, it's a daily driver and my beach surf fishing trruck, she's set up perfect for the beach stock. It has the Freedom package. Are these problems a regular occurence? Thanks , love the truck and the forum.

The 8 speed is one of the best transmitions around.

3.6 is a great motor, little long in the tooth but still a great motor. It's not the power house of a v8 nor up to todays standard and I'm sure will get supplanted some time in the future w a turbo v4/hybrid or the I6 hurricane. But those will be a number of years off for the Glady.

As with most things on a car forum the faults are over amplified. Only those with issues look for solutions. Those with out, don't have need to look. So you end up with a larger sample of negatives than reality.

Battery and the early valve issues seem to have worked them self's out. Both those were attributed to poor quality from suppliers.

Keep in mind anything you read about on the forums ( and not just talking this forum ) is going to be a small window into the real picture. I say that into the context of the fact that people talk a lot more about all the bad things and horror stories and then they do the good. That’s human nature. Go to Toyota forums and you’ll read up about all the issues with Toyota too.

There are some minor issues here and there like any platform. Maybe Jeep has more per vehicle as some % of whatever as compared to Toyota, but the engine is pretty proven at this point as solid as far as I know. I think the diesel has been more quirky. Yes if you read there are stories of people who have a lemon. That would really suck if it happened. It also happens with Mercedes and BMW and Audi and Cadillac and everything else too..

I just got mine so time will tell, but I had an SRT Jeep for a while and it was pretty but like a lot of vehicles they’re super sensitive to fluctuations and battery voltage that will cause all kinds of sensor and electronic gremlins. I had all kinds of shit going wrong in my jeep art for a good couple months and all I needed was to tighten and clean the battery leads. Same thing happened in my 300 srt. I drove a Porsche Panamera for a while, and it was also sensitive to low battery voltage issues.

Thanks all. I have had 4 Jeeps so far. Some I had over 300k before I got rid of them. Other than normal maintenance , Water pumps were the only major replaement on the three befor the Glad. Funny, when I drive the Glad looking over the dash and hood, it reminds me of the Duece and a half I sometimes drove in boot camp. I love it so far.

I didn’t serve in the military but for sure it has that look and feel, looking out over the hood. I also like the fact that I don’t have painted fenders cause I don’t have to worry about all kinds of rock chips and shit and have next to no fear of driving on dirt road as opposed to basically every other car I’ve ever owned.

Wow, you got to drive in boot camp? Never heard of such a thing! I only saw civilian cars over in the parking lot, never anything military. Recruits were never alone much less driving a vehicle. You and I must have went to different places, and it sounds like I got the short end of the stick.

Also valve ticks,
Yep. I had the TSB for the right side/passenger side cams rockers and lifters replaced. Two other Gladiator owners with newer models now have the tick with less miles than I.

Aux battery problems
Yep. Wait for it to happen, or convert to a single battery.

Yeah, I went to Ft Dix for Army boot camp. They looked for guys that could drive a truck. Once I learned it there way, I drove some nights to pick up guys on guard and bring the releaved one's to the barracks. They had trucks called cattle cars for general transportation for traine's. They were I think dodge 6 wheelers stake bodies with seats in the bed. but used a duce and a half for guard duty. It gets better , we stayed at the WAC's barracks during guard mount. That was in 1968. A few months later I volinteered for Nam after AIT. No driving anymore. I was a squad gunner in a leg outfit.

I put 38,000 miles on my 2017 Wrangler JKUS before I traded it for my 2020 Gladi Overland, which has 47,000 miles - 7,500 with a 3,500 pound trailer. No issues with either. Factory batteries on both crapped out at 3 years. Service by the book except early oil changes on both at 2,500 miles and early coolant flush & replacement at 30k miles. Take care of it, have fun, and always keep money in the bank because EVERY vehicle fails somewhere.

Thats why I leased it. 36 months under warranty. Then I turn it in if it becomes a pain. But I will enjoy it till then. Or buy it .

Congratulation on the new Jeep. I had been leaning towards the Freedom edition when I was considering a Gladiator until a nearby CDJR dealer significantly marked down 3 of their older 2023's Rubicon's they had been sitting on essentially making them the same price as the Freedom's they had. Red wasn't really my color but the price was right.

It's nice . It was the only one left and they knocked off $8500.00 plus good money for my trade. I had to take it home. It's got a ton of options , but I don't need half of them. I hope I get good service from her like I did with my 2012 liberty. Good luck with yours also. Oh , Mine is black, but I love red.
