Hello, posted in the main section but figured it better in the diesel specific forum.

Picked up my new Rubicon Diesel, had 11 miles on the odometer, but shortly after noticed the trip engine run time was 2.5hr.
Did they just leave it running for 2.5hr?

Its a diesel engine and I know its not good to have an engine idling for so long especially when it's brand new.
Thoughts?

How long did it sit on the lot?

What part of the country?

If it was located in a section of the country that just got out of true winter, then it may have been idled to deice, remove snow, warm up for test drives.

It's not going to hurt a diesel to run on low idle. Most large generators are diesel and they run at low speeds quite often for long periods of time.

Most of the complaints about diesels just idling have to do with the emissions from them.

Oh, and something else, if ignition is on but engine not running it is possible the "clock" is running. Haven't paid attention to it on the JT, but previous vehicles functioned that way.

Another possibility is that the factory pulled it for additional testing - the water booth, the dynamometer, fit and finish QC checks, etc.

I wouldn't worry. Can't diesels run for weeks straight (maybe a littke facetious)?

My JT had 81 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Beginning of Covid when dealerships drove the vehicle to your home to test drive. They told me they had driven it to 3 different places for test drives. Bothered me at first. Couldn't tell now though.

Depending on where it was going to I’d say it ran a bit idling waiting to get loaded onto a train, back off, onto a truck, and back off. If it took 20 minutes to get it completely moved to where it needed to go every time it was moved there’s your two hours. I used to valet and as long as the car was waiting to be parked or driven off they’d be running.
