Are you meaning transfer cases - since those go in and out in 4H auto, apply when stopped, then let off, then apply again with increased throttle up to WOT where they fully apply, that sort of thing......I do wonder about that. I've heard folks overheating their trannies on long mountain climbs offroad using 4H. Sounds like the remedy is to use 4 lo due to the clutch packs in the DCT based transmission not fully locking up causing the heat. Wonder if the same result could happen when heavy towing.
Or the actual transmission?
One reason I was interested in a 4xe JT was the towing. Payload - well, we'll see how that goes because the JTMX I have now is 850 payload and that sucks. Take 500 away for tongue weight and you have enough for me and one other person - nothing else.
But if they can keep the payload numbers and even just the current towing, yes, the power and torque on the 4xe in the mountains - even long steep climbs our JLU 4xe hardly ever downshifted where on the exact same roads, same exactly (we took the same paths each time - one year the JT the other year the JLU) my JT was up and down in the mountains. The JLU held gears and hardly ever needed to downshift.
