I’m off road all the time in my Overland. It’s done really well in all kinds of terrain including when I need to put it in 4 Low in situations that need it. I just have to be a little more mindful of the angle I approach certain things. The extra 1” in clearance would be nice but it’s also my daily driver. I love the compromise where I can still be off road a lot and use it as a daily driver.
Exactly. It's pretty capable as is for a daily driver - and whatever I want to do.
I tow, I haul, I plow snow, and I drive it any time I want to head into town.
I've tried to price the other levels with the same equipment and options I have, but end up at about 16K higher than what my MSRP was and the "lower trim levels" don't have the options I want so I'm stuck. I guess not really stuck as long as this one keeps doing what it's doing and continues to hold up, but currently, there is not a Gladiator sold that equates to the options and equipment I have without adding a ton of stuff I don't want, have no need for - and costing thousands more.
But then, hey - they have to follow the masses, not the smaller groups. They have to appeal to larger groups of people to survive and if they leave out others like me, they won't care. It's businesses.

I would not buy any other mid-size truck no matter how more capable towing or on the road. I wanted a truck with a soul, no other one has it! If you want a nice ride and quiet, buy a Subaru...

Congrats on finding one. Are you planning on towing? If so, you don’t get the same towing capacity unless you get factory towing. The reason is because factory towing includes a larger alternator and more engine cooling. If you plan on towing, factory tow package would be a deal breaker for me.

As for the door wiring, it’s not that restrictive actually. You can get them further open by removing the door open latch. Super easy.

Edit: without factory towing, I believe you get a different rear camera without trailer hitch zoom. It sounds silly, but it’s awesome.
The tow package is worthwhile if you don't tow. I don't have a basis for comparison but the transmission on mine runs quite cool when not towing (165 - 180) which can only be good for longevity. The higher wattage fan and uprated alternator are other nice to have features. The 4.10 axle ratio also feels like a good match for the engine and gearing.

That's interesting as once mine is 100% totally warmed up, the transmission very closely matches the coolant. I never see transmission temps that low unless it's not warmed up.

Well that solves it... I guess I'll have to put a 2024 grill on my 22 Overland diesel

Interesting. I also very rarely see transmission temps that crack 200. It’s almost always under that, unless I’m towing. Then it’s usually in the very low 200’s.

Like I said - mine almost always closely follows the coolant temperatures........ usually within 5 degrees.
If I only drive for 20 minutes, then the transmission will not reach coolant temperature levels but over 30 minutes or so, then they match closely - and doesn't that make sense if the two are intertwined in a cooler?

I’m pretty open to my memory being poor. I’m driving to Denver and back tomorrow, so I’ll pay attention when it’s warmed up. And that drive involves a bunch of long uphills, so it’ll be a valid test.

Doesn’t the transmission have its own oil to air cooling loop? https://store.mopar.com/oem-parts/m...vciZ5PTIwMjEmdD1tb2phdmUmZT0zLTZsLXY2LWdhcw==

Couple hundred uphill interstate miles today. I’m eating crow. Trans temp was 212 when oil was 215. Good call @ShadowsPapa

Even when the prices were high like in 2020 - 2021, Jeep would have rebates only on the Overland models so I am assuming they didn't sell very well from the beginning.

Not really - when I was shopping, both times, the discounts were only for Rubicon. I got cards in the mail, and emails - and the fine print said "Rubicon models". So I didn't get the better price on my Overland. I never found anything for Overland only.

I think doing away with the Overland is just another mistake of Jeep which they seem good at theses days. I love mine !! Rides and drives great , good gas mileage. I can get 24 mpg plus on highway. Overland was good for the lighter offroader who wanted more options but still wanted the Jeep look.
