As a long time weekend gas tow guy I got the max tow with the intent of towing a 5000 gwr lbs airstream myself. This will be a reduction from my 2004 f150 and 7000 gwr rockwood combo I got out of. I never put my old rig on a scale but I’m sure it weighed a lot more words the end we averaged a little less than one weekend a month from about 2005 to say 2012. I was always pretty happy with the setup but we are flat landers and basically just towed up and down I95 mostly (beaches). The max on the f150 was 9500 so I think I’m about the same percentage wise. Towing with a gas rig is what it is....

I am super happy with my max tow, so far though I’ve only been able to tow a motorcycle trailer with it,

Which airstream is 4500lbs? I’m looking at the carvel 20 at 5000lbs.

With the relatively low cost of the Max Tow option and knowing I already would need to regularly tow a 4500 lb Airstream, dry or otherwise, checking the block for the Max Tow seems to be a no-brainer. If nothing else, the 4.10 alone would be significant enough of an improvement to make it worth it. Even if 4500 is his current "wet" weight, RV's have a tendency to put on the pounds as we continue to upgrade them, just like our Jeeps. Also, with a Gladiator, the OP is going to be very tempted to put things (generators, fuel, etc) in the back of his truck. This is all part of GCWR and I cannot advise anything less than Max Tow or Rubicon.

Also, doesn't hurt to have a little grow room if the OP later wants a 5000 lb trailer.
Food, ice, cooler(s), upgrade trailers later, extra blanket, fishing gear..... gotcha.

Thanks to everybody. I can see I joined the right forum. I dumped number of window stickers across 3 local dealers and found some Sport candidates with Max Tow. After reading everyone's replies, went to the data plate on the trailer (Duh) and the Factory weight, which I sort of assume is the dry weight, is 3613lbs. The Max, or GVWR, is 4500lbs, with the delta of 877lbs being the max cargo do-not-exceed.

That said, I'll just go for the Max Tow. and also will be checking out Tri-City (thanks eagle).
