No 4H but 4L

2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, 1928 Willys Whippet
Here's the situation - 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon

Was down on a beach in some rather deep wet sand, backed in near the water. Went to drive up and away, slight incline, and put into 4h. The rear wheel spun, but fronts didn't even move.

Put it into 4L and got out, no problem.

What could be an issue where 4h won't work, but 4l does?

Do you have Selectrac? the 2Hi, 4auto, 4Hi, 4Lo? Also check to make sure your FAD is fully plugged in.

Is it possible that it just hadn't engaged yet and by the time you shifted into 4L it had locked up? I thought a little bit of rolling was needed for these systems to engage (or maybe that was on older systems, who knows).

Make sure your FAD is working. First check to see that the plug going into the FAD is properly connected and the wires/connector are good. If so, with the engine running and your JT not moving (want to listen for the FAD), shift into 4HI, you should hear the FAD electronically engage.

I can hear it. I also tried the other day and the 4 hi was working again. So I don't know what may have happened. The FAD was connected, which if it went into 4 low then that makes sense.

Just gotta shrug for now and see if it happens again and go from there. Was pretty weird.
