Tuvak appears to be doing well since the treatment. Some of his personality has changed, other parts are the same. Instead of carrying the toy rats into the bathroom next to their feeder, he now carries his brother's toy pipecleaners with bells on them in there. But he straightens the coils out of them first. Weird.
He's gained just a little weight and that's a good thing. Can't feel his spine bones so much now.

Pickle is responding to the twice daily pills - pain in the butt to get him to take them, but it's working and he's himself - with a bit of weight put back on.

Expensive, time consuming, but wouldn't have it any other way -the rewards are far outweighing the other stuff.

Sorry to hear that and hope it becomes manageable. Over the years between horses, cows, 10 litters of German Shorthaired Pointers and our cats I probably could have come close to buying a Gladiator outright if I added up all the vet bills. Here's a pic of Keebler my office assistant

Keebler reminds me of Pickle in a way.
I'm sure he's really helpful - their version of helping is often anything but.

The things we do for pets.

Mine just came home from a 3 night stint at the vet. I gave in and made an appointment Friday when I noticed she was struggling to jump onto the couch. Another $750 bill. Infection of some sort. Thyroid and kidneys look good. She is bad about dehydrating herself. Hates to drink water. We are switching to a mostly wet diet soon to see if it will help. Otherwise she is in great spirits again and very active.

Oh - she is twenty years and five months old ? Had her since the day she was born.

Her first night back home:

Beautiful calico.
We've had two - with not a lot of white. One died of cancer and diabetes after about 13 years, the other made it to 15.
20 years is crazy old - but then, inside, care, it all matters. Punkin made it to 19 after 10 years of thyroid issues and constantly needing to up the med doses, he finally lost control of his hind quarters and was down to nothing so that was a sad trip for me to the vet. I had to take Shadow in that day as well - he had a tumor around the bowel and the vets said surgery would only prolong things a few months. Two in one day.

Tuvak is mostly himself - we wake and go into the restroom to find pipe cleaners and toy rats (soaked from his carrying them around and stretching out the coiled pipe cleaners until they are nearly straight)
He's back to insisting on shoulder rides, cuddling in my arm when I sit, and crying in front of closed doors until we let him in to check things out.
I was so happy to see a toy mouse go flying past my face yesterday as he jumped up two shelves, to a top shelf where we have some cat toys and he batted one of the mice at me.
He then tips his head, looks at me real seriously while I toss it back to him only to have him smack it right back at me even harder. Back and forth we went until I got tired.
I need to get a video of that- it's really cool. I've never seen a cat deliberately throw things at me to get me to play.

The next visit for blood work (this is not cheap in itself) will be the real tell - how are the thyroid levels and how are the kidneys and liver doing as hyperthyroidism can take a toll on both. His heart is a bit enlarged with a slight murmur but he could go for years with that if the thyroid is now under control.
May have to take out a loan to pay the bills.................

They can be such ding-dongs sometimes. I've had to rescue a Tonk off the top of a closet door before. I warn my wife - don't open that door, Tuvak is looking at it!
That kitty looks perfectly fine and content up there.

Tuvak is himself. He's doing all of the stuff he did before, trying to climb up me for a shoulder ride, putting toys in the bathroom next to the feeder and the blood tests came back ok this last time. They tried to check for the heart murmur last visit but he'd have nothing of it, purring so loud they couldn't hear his heart

Pickle is responding to the transdermal meds in the ears. He hates it - he can't stand anyone touching his ears but it's working. Blood tests came back mostly good for 13 years old. He's got to go in this month for dental work - a couple of bad teeth, but not totally unexpected for a 13 year old.. He's feeling fine and acting himself so the thyroid meds are working out.

Glad to hear your cats are doing better.

Glad they are doing ok!

My cat was picky with drinking water - mostly wanted to drink whatever you were drinking instead, or out of the sink when you were using it.

The vet suggested a water fountain since they can hear the moving water. It worked pretty well as long as you didn't let the pump dry out.
