I was responding to forum member about renting an RV and setting up his Gladiator to flat tow behind his motorhome and it just made me think about all the crazy stories I've seen while camping.

So, post the craziest stories you have from when you've been camping. I've got 2.

First, I'm no expert on anything and my handy skills are low. So, in my early years, one time I hooked up the water to my camper. Then I turned on the water, but didn't go inside right away until water started flowing out of my door. Sure enough I left the faucets open and sinks plugged and flooded my whole camper. I cleaned everything up had a great weekend. When we went to leave I had one tire on the road and the other in the grass and it was like Niagara Falls pouring out of the under belly of my camper. We laugh a lot about it today. I traded that camper in on a motorhome.

Craziest thing I witnessed, some guy wanted to deep fry a turkey. For some reason he thought it was a good idea to use a propane quick connect hose to the fryer right next to his camper. Yes, you guessed it, he caught his camper on fire. Whole back corner caught from the bottom to the roof. Everybody started shooting water at it from their hoses and put the fire out, but not before the fire melted a 1/4 of this guys camper.

We have been tent campers for years but Memorial Day weekend 2020 converted us to RV'ers. This was on Lake Texoma in N. Texas. About 12AM a storm came across the lake and in a moments notice, our tent was being destroyed. We ran out of the tent with just the clothes we had on our backs to the truck. We ended up having to go get a hotel room for the rest of the night. This is what we found when we returned the next morning to pack everything up.

Not a camper fail (by owners) I was staying in R.V. park. Some "helper" code for A## Hole would go open black tank valves on other peoples RV's. Two really bad things happen, as anyone who has a RV / T.T. knows. Black tank valve is now unable to get good seal or fully close, with the build up in black tank. Luckily I had a "emergency" tank valve as a just in case kit, then to deal with build up in tank...:headbang:
Now for a owner fail, I'm staying down at private/ members only campground. Guy staying in monster size bus full size power awning, leaving it deployed flat. Then takes off for few days left that way. It rains for few days filling with water. It's now a hot tube for 20-30 people bending arms. Had to cut gash in middle of it to drain it then to un-bolt the retractor "think garage door" fully wound up. That scared the S### out of me when the mechanism can apart it almost caused ambulance trip to a few people.
I could remember some more stuff especially after over 11 years full time in my T.T.

Dang reminds me of a Scuba diving trip in alpine lakes in Austria. Storm came in flattening most of the tents and flooding camp. I was so glad I used my own tent.... only tent that made it and dry. It was money well spent, top rated one in 90s. I had to get out of my tent then get wet walking though water to higher ground.... Most of the group stayed in guesthouse the next few nights. :like:

Crazy story.... my key wouldnt open the door to my room at Best Western! Used to take the kids camping when they were young but then the Marine Corps kinda ruined my camping. Camping for a month in the middle of Winter in Korea, camping in the middle of summer in 29 Palms.
