I pride myself as being "different" by NOT having any of those things.
The reason they have a ring in their nose. Is that no one wants to put a ring on their finger.

We should have unionized. In addition to being the TV remote, I had to get Dad's beer out of the fridge and his glasses wherever those were.

I hated being the remote control. My dad had left his job with RCA/Nasa as he hated living in Alabama. So he ended up selling TVs for awhile. The plus to that job was we had one of the first Motorola TVs with the old remote "clicker".

I remember when we got a Zenith TV that was one of the first remotes for it also. The rotary channel dial on the TV had a motor that the clicker remote would cycle and made the most clanking mechanical sound when changing the channel. My parents when they went shopping and eventually picked up the Zenith, it was a toss up of get a color TV with no remote or a black & white TV with a remote as a color TV with remote was too expensive for them.

Yeah those were not very reliable, I remember my dad fixing ours several times.

Funny thing was our dog would wake up and shake her head or just scratch and she would change the channel, made just the right sound to activate the rotation of the channel. I swear she'd do it at the worst times. Dad solve it by wrapping her tags with a piece of electrical tape.

Today our dogs will lay on our AppleTV remote just right and turn it off, crank the volume or change the channel. Some things never change :D
