Worked aviation when I was in the Army and had a guy in the unit for the better part of a year, bummed rides from the barracks to the airfield where our duty day work normally was held.

Most overlooked it as he was saving up to buy a new Honda Accord outright. The guy finally buys it but then continues to bum rides and finally came out that he was obsessed about resale value, he was too afraid to drive it.

Everybody in the barracks that had been giving him rides finally banded together and refused to give him rides hoping to finally force him to start driving his new car. He started walking or riding a bike but was then constantly late. Finally got kicked out of the Army for too many times being late.
