On Monday my 2021 gladiator eco diesel CEL lit, I Plugged in my OBD II and it showed a single code, U0001.
I cleared the fault and it started. The weather was clear, sunny and 95 degrees. I’m not certain the steering had locked because I immediately cleared the fault without attempting to drive.
I drove to few locations to shop and then home, later that day I was going out and again I got a CEL, I noted the steering was locked when the engine started.
I cleared the same fault snd I drove a few miles. It was a during a heavy rain storm. I reached my destination and shut off the engine. When I started the engine to return home the CEL appeared, the engine would start snd the steering was locked. I cleared the fault U0001. This happened several times before I could clear the same fault and drive home. Since that series of events the fault has not recurred.
I don’t believe faults magically “self-correct”.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

I've run into U0001 a few times although not steering related.

The fix in all but three cases was to check the CAN BUS connections, clean the connectors and reconnect. The pins often get corroded, can come loose or debris works its way into the connections.

In the other cases the issue cleared itself.

Thank you, I’ll start with the battery connection.
is there a reference document I could access to identify the location of all the connection to be checked?
I driven over 50,000 miles and I do live in a high humidity area near the Gulf of Mexico.

Also check the wiring harness by the exhaust pipe by the firewall. There is a bracket that will rub through the harness and cause all kinds of issues.
