I'm in Florida with thunderstorms every afternoon. I want to take the doors and freedom panels off but can't get caught in a monsoon without them. I was thinking of taking the fronts off and laying them in the bed on pool noodles, with more noodles separating the two, then straps across to keep them from sliding. I have a hardcover so they'd be secure (from theft).

Does anyone see any issues with doing this?

would be great if they came out with something better than pool noodles. there is a risk of dropping the doors when getting out of the bed.though this would be the most sound and logical solution. i have just been taking them off on days with less than 10-15% of rain and been getting lucky. would love a better way though

i think the best (only?) good option at the moment are the bestop twill doors but the quality seems hit or miss, not to mention the price.

You might fab a mount for the hinge pins to set in that mounts in front wall of bed to have inside of doors face each other then bungy them together at latch end.

I was thinking something like this. Instead of a bungee there could be a full width bed insert that allowed the doors to drop on the hinge pins and sits between padded pieces that sit out between the doors. I can probably design this and see if any of the big companies are interested in making it

You'll have to fab something. I thought of getting a bolt on bed rack and fab'ing something up to load them like they do glass.

If I start taking the doors off I will be doing it. But if I'm going to pull off the doors I'll just hop in my LJ and drive it. But as much dang rain as it's been here....

Was any progress made on this? Or are there other threads where the issue was resolved?
There is definitely a need to be able to do a couple hour drive to the trailhead and then be able to safely and securely store the doors and the freedom panels in the bed.
Links please to the answers and solution.

For what it’s worth I have the soft doors and they have been great for my purposes. I keep them in the bed with a plastic tote underneath with the back window in and roll the bed cover over them.

I have a more detailed post on them here.

If you have to have hard doors with you the easiest solution is to put them on a hitch mounted bike rack.

Edit: or set this up in the bed. https://www.hitchworx.com/products/freedom-rack-jk-2-door

It’s been too cold to try my idea yet, but I plan to put the front doors in bags in the bed
