Oracle sidetrack lighting wiring question

I’m interested in these to light up the sides of the JT when backing up for my wife to be able to see better. I’ve seen others ask and been told to wire it to a switch but I’d like for them to work as a puddle light and a reverse light. Is it possible to wire these so the light comes on when the door opens like normal AND automatically come on when the jeep is put in reverse? No extra switches…or do I have to choose one or the other?

That would not be difficult to do. You would just need to diode isolate the two inputs (reverse and dome light wires), and then you can run that to power the Oracles. Basically putting the cathode (striped) ends of the doides together, and the anode ends would go to the seperate power sources. I have mine tapped into the bed lights so I can turn them on and off with the lower portion of the headlight switch buttons or they come.on when I open the doors normally.

Yes, those look like they should work. As long as they are set up for 12v + input, they should do the trick.

Last question. I don’t see product specs talking about the amps used. What size diodes did you use?

oh, and I guess I should ask since you actually run these. Are they bright enough to light up down the sides of the jeep to do what I am wanting? I don’t expect daylight, it’s just very dark where we live and I would like my wife to be able to see down the sides so she doesn’t run into anything.

The ones you sent the link for are 3 amp diodes, which should work fine for what you're trying to accomplish. That's the same size I was going to recommend.

The wiring for the side track is three smaller wires; one to ground, one to the interior light; one for turn signal. Like stated before you can add your own materials to make each light dual function. As for bright enough, these are very bright...but the picture demonstrates how the light is thrown. It is quite a bit. I would recommend the Oracle Flush Mount Taillights or the Reverse Lights as the reverse on each of these is extremely bright. https://www.oraclelights.com/products/flush-taillight-jt

I am getting the bumper insert lights also for behind me but it’s very dark at my house so these actually do exactly what I need with lighting up beside the jeep.
How well do they attach with just stick on tape? Would there be any concern with running the jeep through a car wash? Wasn’t sure if the brushes could rip them off.

Great Question! As with anything that uses 3M Very High Bond tape, it is very important to prep the area. Make sure it is fully cleaned prior to installation. Use alcohol wipes to remove any debris, oils or chemicals from the area. Make sure they are placed where you want, then press and hold (I do 30 seconds) to allow the tape to compress and fully adhere to the surface. Although there would not be any loose or standout spots on the Sidetrack, I would recommend care when washing but I have run mine through a carwash without issue...but you never know when one of the brushes will snag...so your mileage may vary and not sure I fully recommend it.

I've had mine on since they were introduced, and the tape hasn't given up the ghost yet. Good strong stuff.
