So glad this topic came up. I was thinking of painting the grill myself, but the option to get a second grill cheap is great too.

I'm thinking of a flat charcoal black.

Finished the grill. Keep the bezels oem color as I like the contrast between black and charcoal. Adds some dimension.

you need to disassemble the entire grill to strip it down just that center section. Took about 20 mins to disassemble. 10 mins to reassemble.

6 coats of plastidip.

you DEFINITELY need a trim tool otherwise you run the risk of damaging the clips on inserts. There are these retention clips on back of grill holding in the inserts. You will need a trim tool to lift and shift the retaining pressure clips.

Looks great. How was the whole disassembly of the grill?

It was not that hard with the right tools and work surface. I have done full resto builds of cars before so not that difficult for me. There was a YouTube video of somebody disassembling a JL grill that i watched but the JL grille is slightly
different. The hardest part was the little plastic notch clips that are not intuitive of how to remove. That is where the trim tool comes in to help.

I don’t like the silver with the overland, plus the boredom of quarantine, I played around a bit over the past couple days with some plastidip. black metallic for grill and gunmetal grey with a blue pearl on the underneath grill and the bumper inserts. I went ahead and did the trail rated badges and tailgate symbol as well

Looks good? How did you dip the bumper inserts? Did you tape them off or remove them?
