How is the HVAC controls working since they are so small on the screen? Do you have the ability to make them larger? Can the Carplay Nav be larger and say the radio page (vehicle FM) be smaller or is that only for say Pandora/other streaming?
I don’t find the hvac controls small at all. They are fixed ín size though. However, you can remap the physical knobs to control temperature instead of fan speed.

The CarPlay app takes up the entire screen(besides the hvac area) and works just like CarPlay in any system.

You can use split screen mode as I had it in the picture of direct sunlight above. In order to get Pandora and SiriusXM to work with split screen, I did have to go into developer settings and turn on the option that forces apps to be resizable. Most apps seem to allow it but some don’t without that option toggled.

A few updates to add. I installed an app called AI Screen. This app allows you to choose any two apps and create a shortcut. I set it as the Nav app and it launches with the radio. Much easier and faster than having to select the apps through the normal split screen process. You can create multiple shortcuts as well.

I also spent some time messing with sound settings and I feel like I have a good reference point for future tweaks. This is a personal taste thing, so your mileage may vary. This is also without an external amp. I am sure these settings would need adjustment if I decide to use an amp. I took a few screenshots.

That is cool and looks like a good upgrade. I have the 7" with HVAC knobs/controls under it. Will this just take place of those controls?

Yes it would. I just got the same head unit and I had the 5.5" screen.

How do you get the split screen? I got it once by accident, but couldn't figure out how I did it.
When you go to the running apps screen you will see what looks like an open book overlayed on apps that support split screen. You touch that and it creates a split screen with that app at the top. Then you choose the second app on the bottom half of the screen.

I had one of the Chinese replacements for my Subaru Outback. I wished someone sold a premium version of this for the Gladiator. I know it may be overkill, but would love something that approached resolution of a good tablet, loads of ram, and the option for me to drop a TB microsd card in it. Android Auto isn't doing it for me.

One oddity is that once you are using CarPlay the wifi on the unit is unavailable. Kind of strange.
Newer versions of CarPlay connect via Bluetooth, then switch to WiFi for operation.
And dammit, I may have to learn Android after all!

The resolution is ok, good enough for me. You can get similar radios on AliExpress with higher resolution. But those units do not use the OEM GPS and Microphones. Resolution was less important the the integration for me.

There are so many USB ports available with this unit you could easily use a MicroSD with its USB adapter. I use a flash drive.

I used to have Android phones and I definitely think CarPlay is better. But, I use my phone as a hotspot and run apps directly when using Android head units.

Yeah, I get that this is what it does, but I didn’t expect it to take over the Wi-Fi so completely. It isn’t the end of the world. I have not been using CarPlay anyway though.

Just got mine and put it in. Took a out 2 weeks to deliver mainly due to customs. Need to figure out how to get android auto to take up whole screen. Still tinkering trying to figure out buttons and menus. Wish there's was a cheat sheet or better tutorial. For anyone else I tired, this company has several YouTube videos going over most the features and functionality, as well as install. I bought new and payed less than 900 for the 8g ram model (top model), after their discount code. Definitely smooth operation. Screen is still sensitive even with the screen protector (for delivery only). This thing looks OE. Loving it so far. Definitely improvement in audio, but working EQ will take a lil time. Plan on putting components in sound bar next. Just wish I saw this review sooner. Gonna try some of ur tips n tricks tho. Thanks you

I installed Car Launcher Pro and have been customizing it for a few days. I like the ability to create my own layout.

I don't think this type of infotainment system is for everyone though. If you don't like customizing or tweaking then this radio could prove frustrating. But, having said that, if you stick to the wireless Carplay environment, the hardware and software is very plug and play.
