Cool toys!
FYI by the way how is the windshield going on the JL? I thought I seen a post on the JL side about glass replacement and damaged to windshield frame. I thought it might be your wife's.Technically anything you carry in or on the Jeep, bed, cabin, cargo area, it's all payload, so what the heck. I'm too damn sick to unload the thing and get it installed back on the 12' table for her (making her quite upset as she has work to do) so I'll post pictures of her frustration - it's heavy, but more awkward and has to go out of the truck, into the house, down a flight of stairs, then carefully slid onto a trolly that moves on the long table (then an hour hooking things back up - great week to get really sick)
Took it up in the back of her Wrangler a week ago - perfect fit back there, but her JLU was scheduled for a new windshield when this was to be picked up, so she grabbed my truck and headed up to NW Iowa (2 hours each way) to get it. And here it sits.........

A week down with bad bronchitis, hard to breathe, and I had to deal with Safelite screwups and now I have to take hours getting estimates driving around the county. And of course, she'll be without a vehicle for a week when repairs are settled on. Good luck matching reign. What a moron, poking a metal tool out like that.FYI by the way how is the windshield going on the JL? I thought I seen a post on the JL side about glass replacement and damaged to windshield frame. Kinda a load to deal with.![]()
Yeah, I figured the post on JL side was you.A week down with bad bronchitis, hard to breathe, and I had to deal with Safelite screwups and now I have to take hours getting estimates driving around the county. But wait, there's more! Yes, it's worse than that.......Yeah, I figured the post on JL side was you.
I'd consider calling your insurance company about this one, you can often get a shop that offers a lifetime warranty on the work and they can subrogate the claim against Safelite. Safelite is also a preferred glass installer for a lot of insurance companies, so they have millions of dollars in those contracts on the line. This is a strong motivator to fix the problem correctly and not jerk you around. But wait, there's more! Yes, it's worse than that.......
My wife saw something I missed in my foggy drugged-up eyes - urethane dripped down the front of the dash - on the leather top pad, leather face, and plastic bezel around the push-button start switch.
We were at the dealer and they suggested a shop that does protections and detailing to see if the urethane can be removed. The guy tried and said no, not without leather damage - it has to be replaced, can't be repaired.
We're at 1500 just for the windshield frame repair - they say the glass must be removed, the frame must be removed from the Jeep and the gouge in the aluminum repaired, the frame repainted, and then all put back together. 4xe means for all of this, the high voltage system gets shut down.
So far I have several hours and a couple of long trips invested in getting the information on Safelite's screw-up. So much for making it right - who's paying for the fuel and time? And it will be down about a week from how things sound. Nice.
Interesting - at the VERY least, I need to contact our agent and let him know what's going on as they do have a vested interest in the beast.I'd consider calling your insurance company about this one, you can often get a shop that offers a lifetime warranty on the work and they can subrogate the claim against Safelite. When in doubt, hold a gun to the money.
The really big stick is to file a complaint with your state's Board of Consumer Protection (or equivalent, some states call it something else), DOPL because that is a strike against their license, and the Insurance Commissioner of your state if your insurance tells you to kick rocks.
