I thought about those, but they are so expensive and you do have to redo them down the road that I would rather just replace my windshield when it breaks with the assistance of my insurance company.

@ExoShield is a sponsor here and may be able to chime in with a sales pitch. I have thought about these too, as I just had my second replacement put in. The only real issues I see is the need to have to reapply when you're down to the last peelaway, and the breaks I've had were from rocks hitting the very edge of the glass, and not sure the overlay would protect that. Maybe a T channel for windows to fill the gap between the glass and the frame?

Part of your comprehensive or a full glass coverage piece?
"Glass coverage" has a wide set of meanings, depending on the state you live in and your policy - so are you saying you have full coverage with no deductible?

Full glass coverage, no deductible. I'm in Michigan. Free chip repair and glass repair if the crack is over a dollar bill size.

It'd be great if all states required ins to do this...

It's part of the reason auto insurance in Iowa is sooo much cheaper. I see people saying they "saved $400 bucks" by picking another company when heck, I don't even pay that much for some of my vehicles! I've seen the numbers - you are paying for it, don't kid yourself. The insurance companies will not lose money, if they are forced to pay for anything, your premiums are simply higher to make up for it.
So in a way, you can just buy better coverage because the net result would be about the same - actually, maybe cheaper because they raise rates due to having to cover it for ALL customers in the state.
My bet, because of how insurance companies use pools and so on, that you could buy the coverage cheaper now than if your state forced companies to cover it for all customers.

Ins was so high in FL because of the uninsured/underinsured... we are saving close to $2K a year by switching states... AL Ins is way cheaper... all 3 vehicles here are about the same cost as 1 in FL.

Just like a $420k mortgage here is $1k a month less that a $300k is down there... we were nearly paying $10/yr for tax/ins... (and because wife is disabled, we are tax exempt here)

Our policy went up a couple dollars for the year.

In Michigan we received money back from overpaying on the uninsured. Also, Michigan dropped the no fault which helped us save money.

Wow, how many vehicles do you have insured?
We aren't even 2 grand total for all of our vehicles.
2021 Grand Cherokee, 2022 Gladiator, 1973 Javelin and 1982 Eagle SX4 and when we had my 2004 WJ, it was still under 2 grand total even with all of that.
