Very new (2 days) 2024 Gladiator owner here. Thinking of getting a little help before the salt season. I was wondering if any of you has applied your own Woolwax or Fluid Film? I have a decent shop at home, decent air compressor, and do a fair amount of my own wrenching.

Not trying to save money as much as I have not had the best experiences when others work on my cars.

I bought my JTR almost 3 years ago along with a 5gal bucket of Fluid Film and a 1gal bucket of black woolwax, as well as the spray setup. I still haven't done it. Would be interested to know if others have as well.

I did my own Woolwax treatment, but just using the rattle cans. I also put 3m cavity wax inside all boxed sections using their 360 application wands.

We do our own Fluid film. Have done many vehicles. The thing that I tell everyone is that helps tremendously to warm the fluid film when you apply it. It flows so much better. We have a old microwave in the shop and put it in for 2-3 minutes at a time and take it out put the lid on shake it, put it back in for 2-3 minutes and so on. Then when it is really warm apply it. If you have two people one warming and one applying it goes much faster. Also we don’t spare any. We put it on heavy.

Also when I said really warm I mean it is getting a little hard to hold on to for very long.

I bought a cheap undercoat spray gun on Amazon and sprayed my gladiator. I have a small pancake compressor and had to wait for the compressor to catch up but it worked fine. I used about one gallon on fluidfilm. I would (and will) do it again. I did let the can sit out in the sun a few hours before spraying to warm it up.

I prefer surface shield, ive had really good luck with it and my opinion is it works the best of all of them.
If you like to do your own wrenching I would recommend just a wire wheel and rustolium spray paint or their hammered texture in the pint that you paint/roll on… works wonders and avoids the mess when your under the truck. Either way just enjoy and keep wrenching!!

I had mine coated with NHOU boss wax in November before winter and the salt hit. They hit it with the wax and then used their oil product in the frame cavities. After the first winter, it looks great--very small amount of surface rust seen here--

Started out doing Fluid Film, Woolwax and am now a Surface Shield convert.

I would say it is worth the money to invest in the professional spray kit with the wands. You can also use a electric paint sprayer.

Just keep in mind that any future suspension and underneath work. you are going to get grimy.

Did any of you need to drill access holes for your application? (Or did your installer if you had it applied?)

My 2020 I had rattle canned Fluid film every fall since I owned it. Sprayed inside and out of the frame with it. My frame was immaculate with no surface rust after 4 years. Did not matter to the GMC 3500 van that knocked the frame rail into the engine ruining it!
