I’m trying to fix my driver side proximity door sensor/handle that stopped working. It was intermittent before I took the doors off and has stopped working completely since after taking off the doors.

I’m thinking one of the pins is bent but they all look good.

To be sure, anyone know which exact pin controls the proximity sensors?

Signed,
My next vehicle will be 4Runner if Jeep keeps this dumpster fire of a harness

What’s the verdict? My passenger side is playing the same game.

I took a quick look. Unfortunately, the pins look straight. They’re hard to see so I’ll go back and spend some more time looking at the pins but they look good.

Now that I know which pins to look at, I guess my next step is to check to make sure power is coming through.

I looked as well, and the same thing happened. Nothing out of the ordinary. Couldn't find my volt meter, so I will try that later.

It’s the wires in the door harness where it gets bent every time the door is opened. Those wires are very thin and get fatigued from the bending. The door harness can be repaired but the replacement harness is only about $60

I read about this before. That person looked about 4-6” from the connector and found some frayed wires.

Did you replace the harness yourself? Where’d you get the parts from?

I have replaced four of them, not for broken wires but to install proximity locks. I ordered the harness from Allmoparparts.

There are videos on how to install the harness in the DIY thread on Proximity locks. It’s not too hard, just take your time.

I search for “proximity” in the DIY section and the only thread that came up was the one regarding a retrofit to the JT/JL.

Was that the one you were referring to?

Before you buy a new harness try swapping the handles side to side. There has been some handle failures and swapping them will rule that out.

Unfortunately I did this AFTER already buying an extra handle.

Turns out the drivers handle worked on the passenger door but I’ll def triple check this before I start tearing stuff apart.

Thanks for the heads up though!
