I'm hoping someone has had this issue and has a fix!

2020 Overland with 75K miles on it. I'm all the sudden having some occasional stalling or not starting issues. It's happened the following ways:

1. Drove for ~20 minutes, parked shut off for another 20 minutes. Got in and tried to start, engine just clicked and the dash lit up. Kept saying to push the start button with the key fob. After 4-5 tries, it finally started.

2. Tried to start up after work, no go. Figured the battery was dead. Called AAA for a jump. They checked the battery and said it was well within spec. Tried to start, and it started right up normally.

3. Driving and stopped at a red light. ESS kicked in, dash lit up and jeep completely shut down. Was able to restart normally, but had almost no power. Pressed the gas pedal to the floor and couldn't get up over 15 mph. Got to where I needed and shut it down for half an hour. Then it started back up normally.

I first took it to the dealership. They tested both batteries and said they were good, full voltage, etc. Found no codes, and no solution. It's happened a couple more times since, so I took it to an auto shop (not dealership), and they checked the system for any codes. Says absolutely no codes showed up. They suggested it most likely is a computer or sensor issue, but may just need to be re-flashed by the dealership.

Any help would be appreciated!!

People Work?
Assumptions:
1. Battery cables are tightly installed and clean?
2. You're still on the original batteries?
3. You've made no electrical modifications that may be contributing to the issue?

Yes to all?
You need either
1. Both new batteries, or
2. Replace the main cranking battery and bypass the AUX battery

Yes, I read what the dealer said.

@Lunentucker gave you somr good things to check. And #1 is critical. You think the cables are on good but they might not be. I have a2020 Overland with similar issues about the years ago and it was my battery terminals. I'll post the link and you'll see what I mean.

Here's my video from the years ago. Go to the 5:35 (past all of my talking) mark.

Interesting. It looks like you overcleaned that terminal and took too much off?
A short piece of copper pipe the right size might make a good shim. I know it's an older video and you're past fixing it. Just thinking about ways to fix that kind of problem.

Crazy thing is that I never cleaned that battery. At the time, I had only had that terminal off twice, which is when I installed the stereo. Never cleaned it though. Never had to. Maybe the dealer was swapping parts before I bought it. I bought it brand new in June 2019. But, who knows what the dealer does these days. Lol

But I did end up getting a couple shims for O'Reilly's for like $3 and problem solved. Which is the same idea about your copper pipe. So that would've worked too. The dealer swapped terminals with another and that didn't work. They then blamed it on me and told me to put a screw in it.??

Nope. Not doing that. Shims worked great! And I had the similar symptoms as the OP.

Yes, original batteries. But, I do have a plow hooked up. That is the only electrical stuff connected directly to the battery. The plow has been installed for two full years with no issues, so I think the only issue would be the additional draw. I did tell the dealership this, fully expecting that it was one or both batteries just deteriorating. But they did say they didn't see any reason to replace them. On my previous JKU that I plowed with for ~7 years, I did have to replace the battery twice.

I'll check the cable tightness issue both you and @tysongladiator noted. We've got a auto battery company here in Ohio, maybe they can do some additional testing to verify if the batteries are good or bad.

Wow! And people wonder why I do my own oil changes and ignore the free Wave ?
I know exactly how you feel. I got another one for you. It's on my channel from about three years ago as well.

I had the steering box replaced (TSB). Wasn't having an issue but a free replacement from the aluminum to the steel couldn't be beat. Not even 24 hrs later, I'm driving, and my Jeep is all over the place. Look at it myself and found the pitman arm nut was barely finger tight. That nut has to be 184 ft/lbs.

Torqued it myself and problem solved. Went back to the dealer to tell them what happened and all of a sudden they don't remember who worked on it.?‍♂

Used to be able to get lead caps for battery terminals that solved that issue. Clamps would wear or get distorted. Today, the clamps are made a lot differently and one might be able to re-shape some of them........
