FAD(front axle delete) failing. Try shifting into 4wd when it happens, if it goes away then it for sure is the FAD. It just started on mine a couple weeks ago. I have a 21 JTRD too. Kinda pissed about it as I haven’t even really abused this thing like I plan to.
Did they fix yours already?

I am in the middle of my prep for it. I found a gentleman on the forum that changed out the bushing that may be the culprit. He responded to me last night. I am 170 miles from the nearest Jeep dealer so probably going to do it my self. To get to the bushing you need to pull the passenger side axle shaft out. I need to change my ball joints anyway as I have some death wobble and I think one of them is bad and might as well change them out when I pull the shaft to replace the bushing. If it has just started you could potentially just put some bearing grease on it. I posted pic and part number below of the culprit of all our woes. Number 3 in the diagram.

Confirmed its the FAD. Shifted into 4H and the sound goes away, shift back to 2WD and the sound comes back.

Thx everyone!

Hopefully now with these videos, the dealer will just do the work quickly, vs the traditional... we need to reproduce it... Especially because the only two times i have heard the sound was coming back from snowboarding... No sound all week and no sound when driving out to the mountains...
Really hope this does not turn into a: "we have test driven the car 40 times and not been able to reproduce the sound".

The dealer already said they have to reproduce... Dont know whats going to happen as the ONLY times the sound and vibration happens is coming into Denver from the mountains. In no city driving in the last month has the sound happened.

Put a tech in the car and drive them all the way to Evergreen and back. :)

So, just posting up that I performed the bushing replacement and my noise has gone away. 13 dollar part…pretty easy to pull the shaft with the right socket and and tools. The clutch tool is some kind of vise grip that you can grab the retaining clip on the inner shaft to pull to be able to pull it off, to allow you to slide out the inner shaft that has the bushing inserted in it. I managed it with a pair of vice grips, but it took all my skills and power as a 30 year rock climber to yard that sucker out, and that was with a good 2 hours wasted trying alternate methods to try and remove the bushing in situ and try to get the clip off. Just pull the retainer clip and pull the shaft out. I had to grind mine out with a drill bit to remove it. Their is a you tube of some guy using some vise grip brand/ plumber wrench tool and popped it off first try. Maybe that is the tool. I just completed a 400 mile Death Valley trip on and off pavement. She is a purring kitten again. As a side note I did see a manufacturer of upgraded axles have a brass bushing in their system. Maybe that’s the fix we need?
