Replace rear fender rock chip vinyl

The clear vinyl rock chip piece that's on the rear fenders on mine are kind of chipped up and I can't unsee it. I'd like to replace them. Saw somewhere that they are basically a peel off material but also saw there is a potential of paint coming off when you remove them. Is this true? Definitely want to put new ones on for protection. Heat gun and some patience will remove the old pieces. Xpel brand PPF in the link is good stuff.
