I know many don't like the OE steel rear bumper, but in my one-time experience, I'll say, it's strong. My off-road adventures probably won't ever be aggressive enough to test it.
The OE steel rear is unpopular? I like mine. I wish my truck had the front steel too, but I bought it off the lot (good deal). I would have added it if building.

I like mine too. It took a pretty good hit. The other car had a significant emotional experience when it came into contact with this bumper.

I haven't read all responses so this might be repeated info. If you add a second rear tow hook you have to cut out some plastic to install it. If you do double check to make sure you trimmed enough plastic to fit before installing bolts, the bolts are a PTA to install without removing bumper. I had to trim more plastic than I expected to need too. There is a steel plate in there too.

I recently put an OEM rubicon rear steel bumper and bed sliders on my sport s, and while they look similar the OEM steel is definitely beefier. It also gets a couple small bolts on either side of the hitch that tie the bottom of the bumper into the bottom of the hitch frame so it won't "peel" up as easily if your dragging it over a rock. That combined with being tied into the rock rails at the back corners and it's definitely much more secure than the OEM plastic bumper.

Pic below for the subtle exterior differences (top is steel).

Can I ask what type of screws or connectors you have along the bottom of your steel bumper (the top one) ? I just snagged a steel bumper off Facebook marketplace this weekend for $100, but those are missing. It does have threaded receivers on the inside of the bumper, but not the actual screws.
